Formula at the hospital

Hi all

so I know you can buy ready to feed milk in pre sterilised bottles (the one I want is out of stock everywhere!) but does anyone know if hospital wards have the tommee tippee prep machines to make up formula in case I can’t find the ready to feed milk in time?

You can just buy the cartons of ready milk and use the hospitals disposable sterilised bottles or they can provide you a steriliser to sterilise your own bottles. They won't have a prep machine so just get pre mixed milk

When I had my first we had the milk in the little bottles as well and they told us to pour it out of those bottles and into their ones because babies drink like 15ml at a time and they're usually 150ml bottles so if you feed it to them directly then you have to throw the whole of that bottle away. But if you just pour a bit in then put the milk in the fridge you don't waste any

My hospital provided the pre made up little first milk bottles ready to feed type. There was a cupboard in the nurses station just to help yourself at any point.

@SassyPants87 is it Kendamil ready made you are looking for by any chance (we’ve had the same issue and due in a few weeks so wanted for the hospital bag) If so, in the last few weeks I’ve found stock in store at large Tesco stores (the ready to small feed bottles with teats and the 200ml bottles) and at Savers. You can check instore stock at stores near you using their Tesco Grocery App to save a wasted journey. Good luck!

@Katff yes it’s the kendamil one! Thanks for the heads up will go into large tesco store to have a look. Been looking online for what seems like months!

No problem! We were also looking online with no luck - so was checking in store stock regularly instead. Also try larger Waitrose stores as we found some there too recently. I actually messaged Kendamil to ask where the ready made was sold and was told that it’s sold exclusively at Waitrose, Tesco, Savers and some Asda Stores but they weren’t able to advertise the relaunch of the product.

I saw some in co-op the other day too

Try boots website.. they are out of stock online at the moment but they may get some in which you can click and collect or a store near you may have them in. I managed to
get ready to feed online from boots.

Hospitals don’t have a perfect prep, no, as it’s not the recommended way to make up formula in the NHS’s opinion. For what it’s worth, I work in maternity and I had one and it was bloody brilliant!

mamazac · 05/09/2022 19:24

@SassyPants87 can I ask is there a paticular reason why you wanted kendamil? They're all the same thing in different packaging so might be worth considering another brand to save the stress x

SassyPants87 · 05/09/2022 20:38

@mamazac because it’s the only vegetarian formula. It has veg based omega 3 not fish oil based, so same amount of DHA but through plant source. Also it has no palm oil in it. Worked wonders on my first born and rectified stomach issues so keen to use the same for my second :) x

@SassyPants87 ah that makes perfect sense! Apologies for questioning you, i was so shocked when I found out 95% of them are all the same thing at different prices I don't want anyone to buy more expensive when not necessary!
