I was in at maternity assessment for reduced movements, on the monitor I could see babies heartbeat in red and there was a green number next to it which said toco, the number was going from 50-65 and from what I read that means contractions but I haven't had any contractions at all, does anyone know what this means ? I'm almost 37 weeks pregnant

I’m not sure but could it be Braxton hicks? I’ve been in for monitoring a few times and had similar readings without contractions. The midwives and doctors didn’t say anything about it so I just assumed that is what it was.

@magd2901 I'm glad you've had similar, they never said to me either so I know it obviously doesn't matter, I was just curious about it. Could possibly be braxton hicks, can you have these without feeling them? I honestly had no pain at all it was just reduced movement I was in for

I think you can have them without feeling them. My SIL had loads last pregnancy whereas I had none last time, so just going by her description of them and when I’ve asked the midwife.

It doesn't really mean contractions at all. It completely depends how it's baselined. The numbers on the toco mean absolutely nothing.

You need to look at the trace to see if any contractions are being picked up.

The toco should have been reset, if it is at 50 it hasnt been. The toco can go up and down with fetal movements, breathing, coughing, vomiting. Anything that tenses your abdomen.
