Anyone manage to sort accommodation before their delivery? I'm hitting 3rd trimester and still haven't found a new place. Constantly checking the market etc. Either way out of budget or nothing suited for us. Currently have a lot of our belongings in a unit but even then the house is overfull, it's far too small for us. Starting to get to the panic stage. Have been checking rentals too and again either out of budget or similar size to current rental. I have 12 weeks ShockShock!

Yep pretty much the same situation, except we've been waiting for our purchase to go through for 10 months now 😭 been looking at other houses and offering left right and centre but still stuck in our tiny rental. We're sleeping on a mattress on the floor cause our bed would take up too much room, can manage getting in and out currently... Not sure I will in a couple of months !

Sorry to hear that @BigSidLittleSid! It's so stressful. With my first there was ample space and I remember now slowly starting to prepare. But this time I can't even get anything out of storage or get the clothes out to wash etc. I generally tend to suffer slightly crazy planning tendencies so something like this has thrown me off totally.

Newborns don't have to take up a lot of space. Enough room for a moses basket.
We lived in a tiny place when DD was born. Pram lived in the car. Foldable stokke bath. We used the pram carrycot (suitable for overnight sleeping) for naps and coslept at night, although I'd managed to fit a cot bed next to our bed in the bedroom. You don't need changing tables etc; I just used a changing mat on the bed (upstairs) or on a sideboard (downstairs).

They don't have to go into their own room for a while yet so you've got at least 9 months or so, if not longer. A colleague has a baby and a toddler in a 1 bed flat. Its not ideal but it's manageable. No need to panic.

We've given up now.
We're in a small 2 bed. DS17 obviously can't share.
Im now on mat leave and baby will just sleep in our room until we find somewhere. We're staying put until I go back to work next July unless something amazing comes up. Mortgage advisor said it's not the best time to buy right now and rental prices have rocketed.
We'll be fine. We've only bought what we need right now. No point in buying high chairs etc that take up space when we won't be using them for months. Pram is in the garage. I've got a bedside crib that lasts until 9kg but after that we will struggle to get a cot in out room but no doubt we'll make it work.

Thanks @ISeeTheLight . I'm co-sleeping already with my first, and have no room for even a Moses basket in the room. Literally zero space for current toddlers clothes and toys etc let alone now adding a newborns things. I never had a changing table etc just always used a mat wherever I was. We don't have high chairs just use our normal chairs and add a little seat on. My house looks fit to burst. I can have pram in boot, it's more so, newborn clothes, all the nappies/wipes, bottles, the Moses basket/cot (either for baby or toddler). I have boxes in every room for extra storage but it just isn't cutting it. I want to bring out my sons newborn clothes to wash and clean all the neutral ones but nowhere to put them once washed. Not to mention any space for toddler to play. Sigh I'm just getting very stressed!

What was the plan when you decided to have another baby?

It seems like 6 months pregnant is a bit late to be having this thought.

The good news is that babies don't have to take up a lot of space! Are you in a one bed?

berksandbeyond · 03/09/2022 11:34

Can you and your husband get a (good quality) sofa bed and sleep in the living room?

Then once baby needs a proper cot, the two kids can share the bedroom together?

To get a bigger place and each time we've had some obstacle. It's not us starting to suddenly look now, it's just not working out and the days are now ticking.

I think the sofa bed option might be a good one @berksandbeyond! Thank you.
