(31 weeks) Continuous Braxton Hicks! Why have the hospital sent me home?!

Hi guys!

So today I have just been sent home after an overnight stay in hospital due to having braxton hicks contractions every 3-5 minutes or so. My 1st born was a little boy which was a late miscarriage at 16 & a half weeks & due to this I am classed as high risk. My second born is a little boy who I went to full term with.

Basically I’ve been having tightenings/braxton hicks since about 20 weeks & didn’t realise it as I assumed it was just baby pressing against me or moving. The past few weeks they have become a lot more frequent! I’m due 31/10 and having a little girl, due to my cervix shortening & FFN levels being up & down they gave me the decision between progesterone pessaries or a cervical stitch at 24 weeks of which I decided on the pessaries.

All has been well & BG is very active pretty much all of the time. I rang PAU yesterday around 7pm as I felt the constant contractions were unusual. Not painful, just a little uncomfortable & they asked me to go up to get assessed. After being hooked up to the monitor they could see the definite regular contractions & decided to keep me in overnight for monitoring. I basically was given a bed to go to sleep and told I would be hooked back up to the monitor in the morning. I was monitored for around 30/45 mins this morning, still having regular contractions and yet they just gave me iron tablets to take one every 2 days & sent home.

I’m to call back if the contractions get painful or I lose any blood/something comes away ‘down there’. Is that normal? I’m still having regular contractions & can’t help but feel like I should be worried considering I’m still only 31 weeks!

Has anyone else experienced this as I’ve never known anyone else to go through it so some support/advice would be amazing!

Thank you!

If your concerned, ring and insist you're seen. Mummy intuition is important!!

I've had alot of braxton hicks and tightening this pregnancy, apparently they're worse if your dehydrated and In my case I'm feeling them more as its my 3rd and babies breech and sticking right out front.

I have been having a lot of BH. Been in with those for assessment several times, they take a special swab to see if you are likely to go into labour in the next two weeks. It has always been negative for me so far. I am currently 33 weeks.

anything brings bH on - leaning, baby moving, brisk walk, being dehydrated, bloating, full stomach, tiredness, stress.. list is endless so one midwife told me I have an irritable uterus. The other day I was dehydrated and overworked myself when cleaning up at home (I had no choice at that point) and had contractions pretty much back to back for two hours. Scared me a lot. Did not think I would go into labour but just worried about the baby. But being constantly reassured by midwives and doctors it is not to worry about.
