Baby won't turn?

I'm 28w6d and baby is currently lying laterally across my belly, facing the floor, which is how he's been since at least 19w. He's really active and all the scans show him being healthy. Should I worry he's shown no signs of turning? I'm a first time mum and don't know what is normal and what is bad 😭

When space gets a little too tight he will turn one way or the other. I wouldn't worry plenty of time

Mine was like that at 28 wks and I thought she would stay that way but by the time I had my 30 week scan she had turned and was head down. I'm now 34 wks and she's stayed head down. My consultant said they can turn right up to delivery.

How do you know which position your baby is in? I'm currently 27 weeks and not booked in for any more scans, I've just had the 12 and 20 week ones. I often wondered how they know if it's breach or back to back etc!?

Where do you feel kicks? Mine are all low down in my pelvis. I've had some extra scans, the most recent was at 25 weeks where I asked about position and he was exactly as I pictured him. I think they can tell by how your bump feels a bit later on.

There's plenty of time for baby to turn. My baby was transverse until about 34 weeks when he moved to head down.

28 weeks is still early. My midwife didn't even mention position as an issue until more like 32 weeks and they didn't do a presentation scan until 36 weeks I think... By which time she had turned on her own, as most do.

When your bump is bigger, the midwives can feel it and feel where the head is. If they think it's the "wrong" way up they will offer you an ultrasound to confirm. They can't always tell if back to back though, and it doesn't make much difference to how you would continue anyway - whereas with a breech baby they might offer you external turning or a C section.

If you want to make things as comfortable as possible and increase the chances that your baby moves into the most usual position for birth, then you could look at the spinning babies website for some movements, positions and exercises to do.

At 28 weeks baby is still small and has plenty of time to move, I don't think they worry too much until 36 weeks, where they'll do a scan and then discuss your 'options'
Transverse is less than ideal, and if baby stays like that they'll likely have you on bed rest or try and turn baby later in the pregnancy, but unless you go into early labour it makes no difference right now x
