Silvercross Dune Pushchair

Hello everyone...

It's that time where I need to think about baby purchases and it's a minefield isn't it?!

I really like the Silvercross dune pushchair. As it's quite new I understand people may not have it yet but I was wondering if anyone had any views on it?! I really don't know what to look for, each pram is great in its own right so was hoping to hear from someone who's looked at it too!

Thank you

Hi OP,

Have you had any more thoughts? I have spent hours(!) researching different models, reading reviews, and watching YouTube videos and am very much leaning towards either the Silvercross Dune or Reef pushchair. Others on my list were the Cybex Priam 2022 and iCandy Peach 7.

I was initially set on the UPPABaby Vista 2 thinking a tandem pushchair would be convenient if we were to have a second close in age, but all my friends with 2 children tell me to buy a single pushchair (lighter, less bulky and more convenient). And those that did need a pushchair for 2 all exchanged their single pushchair for a double (side-by-side) instead of a tandem.

I will let you know if and when we buy our pushchair!

Thanks for your reply... and it's so confusing isn't it!!

So I went into John Lewis for the 2725255th time(!) And the advisors were really lovely. I definitely suggest booking an appointment with them. The Reef is absolutely beautiful too. For me personally, the wheels were too big and heavy. But the actual pram is beautiful!

I went to Mamas and Papas and was told I needed either a carseat/carrycot plus the pushchair. But with the dune it goes flat so you don't need any of the other attachments really if you didn't want them!

Mamas and Papas have some lovely ones too but they all seem so similar that I can't differentiate between them other than the size of the wheels 😂

That's interesting about tandem ones! One of my friends thinks I'll regret my purchase though as she said when they get to near a year old you'll want a lightweight stroller rather than these heavier pushchairs. So maybe something to keep in mind? But I'm sucked into aesthetics 😂

I think it looks lovely. Don’t have it but have been admiring it. The only thing I would say is I bought a single pram for my first (and only) baby and now we’re thinking about having another and I’m thinking my little boy will still need a seat yet our pram can only be a single so I’m going to have to go to that whole expense again. In hindsight I wish I’d considered the egg, silver cross wave or one of the icandys that can convert to a double. It would make my life so much easier just to have been able to use that for a bit until he would just go on a buggy board. If you’re even potentially thinking about having more than one I would really think about it

JuliaBelgravia · 04/09/2022 09:38

@Yellowflower123 I am planning to go to John Lewis today! That's helpful to know your thoughts re. the Reef. I live in central London so I imagine the Dune would be best model for us and it folds more compactly than the Reef. Do you think the Dune is ok for walks in the park?

You'll probably end up buying a travel stroller when your baby is older but I think you need a heavy pushchair that can lie flat or has a carrycot to start with. My friends all swear by the BabyZen YoYo - apparently it's the best travel stroller!

@Sparklythings1 The problem with the tandem/convertible pushchairs is they are a lot bigger and bulkier than the single prams. So it's a bit of a pain to have to use that for single use until your second arrives. That's why I am thinking if we end up having a second baby close in age, we'd sell our single pram and exchange for a double pushchair. Also one thing to note, my friends with 2 say they prefer having their children side by side rather than squished on top of each other. Some of the tandem pushchairs like the popular UPPABaby Vista 2 can only fit the carrycot at the bottom, which is not ideal! My European friends all seem to have the Bugaboo Donkey Mono.

Sparklythings1 · 04/09/2022 10:01

@JuliaBelgravia yes I liked the look of that, also like the baby jogger city mini gt double. Might end up just getting a buggy board with a seat for our single pram then get a double running buggy for when the baby is old enough and use it for dog walks

I bought the Dune about a month ago now for my 5 month old. It is so lush, I absolutely love it!! Cannot fault it, I am obsessed. Definitely buy it.
I started with Babyzen Yoyo which I also loved as it was so tiny and great for getting in and out of black cabs... but then my baby got too big for the bassinet and did not have enough neck strength for the outward facing seat. So I needed to get another pram 😆 Almost got another really small pram like the Bugaboo bee but glad I opted for the Dune, it feels so beautiful but is still not too big. Glad baby can face me or outwards (when he's ready!) For number two I will start with the Dune with the bassinet, rather than the Yoyo for sure.

We went to John Lewis to look at the Dune in person and much preferred it over the other prams for city living! Mainly chose it as we liked the newborn pod option it comes with instead of having a carrycot 😊
Also just bought it this morning from this website as they're doing 10% off the Dune! Not many places doing discounts on the Dune as it only came out this year!

Just commenting here in case anyone stumbles across this thread in future! We have the sliver cross dune and I love it. Dc is now 7 months. It’s very smart, sturdy, I’ve found the overnight sleeping bassinet so handy for when I stay at my mums, the base of the pram fits loads. I nip on and off the tube a lot and it’s light enough to do that but isn’t flimsy at all! It collapses so easily - a few of my mum friends have commented. It’s also well made - looks good as new seven months later

Hi @Peanutbutteryday thanks for the update! Im swaying towards the Silver Cross Dune, having been to about 5 pram shops! I love the look and feel but only reservation is around the size of the wheels / how smooth the ride is when compared to the Reef (or other prams with larger wheels).

We live in an urban area and 90% of the time will be using the pram on pavements, even if in paths. But of course there’s always going to be occasions when we might end up in a muddier / bumpy place (cobbles etc.)

Would love to hear how you’ve found it on any other terrain except pavements? X

Even if in parks** that should say!

Hello! I still love my dune. I feel so smart and proud out and about still - 13 months later.

Because I’m London we only really do pavements, we can do and regularly do mildly bumpy paths (ie in country parks) and completely fine, but we did try a very bumpy forest and it was tough going. If you’ll be in forests more than the 10% of the time you mention you may struggle.

In terms of smoothness for the baby we don’t have any complaints ever (She has complained in our other good quality travel pram though so I’m confident she likes the dune..).

I can’t remember what I said in my posts before but we are city living (tubes, buses, walking everywhere) so the dune has worked perfectly.

I’d say silvercross prams are quite heavy (I translate this as sturdy so not necessarily a negative thing as, tbh, I hate my lighter travel pram - feels so flimsy) but I suppose a point to consider whether adding on bigger wheels may make it heavier? I didn’t ever try larger wheels so I can’t comment as I knew I was a city girl.

I hope this helps. I am very pro silvercross and dune so I’ve tried to leave a balanced comment but for the avoidance of doubt I do love my choice. I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Parks - completely fine!! It was just the forest we struggled with!

Hello, just wanted to ask if you ended up buying the Dune stroller? It's my favourite so far and I also love it in the colour stone which I know may be prone to getting dirty. Such mixed reviews online, some saying it's amazing and others saying that the frame feels loose and the metal work chips and scratches very easily showing the silver underneath. Thank you

I’ve had my dune 15 months and no chips not complaints on the framework at all. I like that it’s lighter than other silvercross’s. Hope that helps.

Thank you for updating this! If you happen to see this, could you please tell me if the Dune feels fine to bump up kerbs? I’ve seen a few reviews saying that’s difficult because it doesn’t want to tilt back onto the rear wheels. I’ve tried in a shop does seem to require a lot more downward pressure than others, but it’s obv really hard to test this in a shop with an empty buggy!

Erm kerbs can be a pain sometimes yes (although I don’t really have another pram to compare to) but I find the tilt back vert easy. I tend to know now which kerb size we can go up without needing to tilt back. I still absolutely love this pram my review hasn’t changed. I’m so glad for the small wheels for tubes/buses as we are in London and it’s lighter than the massive wheels. Hope this helps. xx
