All day nausea

Hey everyone, I'm 13+3 and my nausea is very much still here, allll day. I was so hopeful it would have eased by now, everyone telling me about the magic 12 weeks. Started at 6 weeks exactly and I've had almost 8 weeks of what I can only describe as hell. Vomiting hasn't been a massive issue for me, but the nausea is debilitating. I feel like from week 12 until now it's actually gotten worse!!! Anyone else similar ? And anyone that's overcome it when did it eventually ease for you?
I'm back to eating plain and gag at the smell of most things. I've been on 4 different anti-emetics, ondansetron atm but finding the headaches that come with it incredibly hard to deal with

I'm so sorry! No suggestions really, but loads and loads of sympathy. Pregnancy nausea is the pits. I'm currently 7 weeks with my third, all I can say is it does eventually stop! And then at some point you forget about it enough to go back and do it all again. The only thing I've ever found to help is lying very still in a very full bath. Which obviously you can't do 24/7! Have you found the anti-emetics help with the nausea? I started throwing up at 5 weeks with this one, and while drugs are definitely reducing the vomiting they're not touching the nausea at all.

SpinCityBlues · 30/08/2022 15:05

Oh you poor thing, I had this with both my DC and it started to fade at 16 weeks (no 1) and 14 weeks (no 2) - and then I felt fine. It was very hard to keep going though in those early few months. ExMiL kept banging on about crystallised ginger fgs when I was so far beyond that, it was laughable.

But it will end, honest.

NiqueNique · 30/08/2022 15:08

I suffered horrendously (nausea all day long, could hardly eat anything at all, sick several times daily) until I was 5 months plus. Then it did ease a whole lot.

Lots of sympathy! It is horrible. Hopefully it’ll ease for you soon. 🌷

Prochlorperazine helped with the nausea but it made me so restless and agitated I had to stop taking that.
The ondansetron will ease it for a while, but I'm afraid of the headaches now which paracetamol won't touch. It's an awful game of catch 22, do you want the nausea today or the side effects of the drugs?
This is my first pregnancy and boy was I naive thinking id sail through it, I really had no clue how bad it could be!!!

First of all well done- it's the most awful, debilitating thing to get through.
You have to find what works to some extent for you.
Stick with the medication and eat small amounts and especially drink where you can. You can get through it and the nausea will hopefully wane somewhat but don't give yourself a deadline- you'll begin to notice some days you have better periods soon.
Look at the hyperemesis thread on here, if you haven't already.

elepants · 30/08/2022 15:15

Oh bless you. I still remember throwing up the first time with my first pregnancy and being like "welp, guess that's
morning sickness, glad to have it done and out the way!" How wrong I was. Have you checked out the pregnancy sickness support website? I only recently found it but it's at least nice to have the confirmation that you're not alone.

greenerfingers · 30/08/2022 15:37

Sorry you're going through this! There's a hyperemesis support group on the pregnancy forum. It might be worth joining that for moral support. Mine eases around 17/18 weeks but then it does go so try not to lose hope Xx

Not quite sure that first line is true. Choosing to have nausea (unless the pregnancy was unplanned) isn't comparable to literally everything else

You're lucky to not understand

No, no pretty sure I understand. Just wondering what's the need for such a comment

@laurenfeelingsick It's relentless.

HG sufferer here. I'm now 38 weeks. It does get easier, but that doesn't really help when you are in the thick of it. You have my sympathy.

Out of interest, are you just taking Ondansetron? I've heard that it is a medication often better being taken with another for maximum effectiveness. I know you said you didn't get on with Prochlorperazine, but how about Cyclizine? The side effects are rubbish but inevitable with most of them, unfortunately. I used to think Ondansetron was giving me headaches, but I actually suffered with headaches most days from weeks 11-15ish, then they went away.

I'd read online about combining but my GP had never mentioned this. You know now that u mention it, I didn't take the ondansetron today and still had the headache. I'm ringing my GP tomorrow for another consult to talk things over.

Also @Carrieonmywaywardsun seems to be insinuating that we brought this on ourselves by getting pregnant (hence the 'unless unplanned' comment) and that what we are going through doesn't seem to compare to others.

@laurenfeelingsick Good luck with the GP tomorrow.

I bought a microwaveable heat pack that helped a bit with the headaches, but I agree, paracetamol doesn't really touch them.

Sunshineandroses5 · 30/08/2022 21:56

Another HG suffer here, 100% speak to pregnancy support group and talk through your options. You can combine second line meds with first line meds. I found it rough and got worse till 18 weeks and felt cheated by the 12 week comments too!

i also read an article recently from a woman who had cancer treatment and HG. She said the HG was by far worse and doctors didn’t seem to care as your just pregnant. The sickness from the cancer treatment was no where near as bad but the doctors and nurses where alot more compassionate. Just goes to show how some people really don’t understand how bad HG can be, which isn’t a condition they chose.

Hoping you get some relief soon, also talk to your midwife to look at counselling if needed, the endless toll of sickness and nausea can really mess with your head.

laurenfeelingsick · 30/08/2022 21:56

@turquoise1988 thanks so much 💞 good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy, wishing you a safe delivery and healthy baba

@laurenfeelingsick Thanks!

@Sunshineandroses5 I echo the mental health impact. There needs to be greater acknowledgement of it. I recall going to my 20 week scan and feeling nothing. I felt so guilty, like
I should have been so excited. The truth is, the HG just sapped every ounce of my being. I'm glad to say it did get better for me, but I know that the implications for other women can last much longer, even into postpartum.

laurenfeelingsick · 30/08/2022 22:15

@Sunshineandroses5
When i found out I was pregnant my GP advised me to come off the anti-depressants I was on. I did this reluctantly. I've made my midwife aware of this and she's said I can contact re this at any stage. I have been weepy and emotional due to this all, it's so draining. But have the right contacts in place if needed.
