hemorrhoids and labour

So, I had a hemorrhoid earlier in the third trimester when I had covid, which thankfully cleared up in a week or so. But now 39 weeks and its back with avengence and some friends 😫

Anyone have experience of trying to have a vaginal delivery with hemorrhoids? Just concerned its going to make birth more painful, that they'll get worse during labour, and that it'll add soreness to postnatal period

Try and get on top of it asap. Speak to your gp and get proper medication including suppositories, these are far better than anything you can buy over the counter and you’ll be grateful in the long run

@IDontDrinkTea Thanks I'll see if GP can prescribe something - last time I just used OTC cream

Can I just say I know loads of people complain about availability of GPs at the moment, but massive shout out to my GP practice who have been running a super effective telephone triage - already given them call, explained situation to receptionist, got a quick call back from GP just a few mintues later who's sending prescription direct to the pharmacy today 👏

Hi @2mumlife how did you get on with the medication? I am interested to hear as really suffering and worried about labour too! Going to book a GP appointment for next week.

This was something I was really worried about too before I gave birth. But as it turned out I didn’t notice it at all during labou

@Babyenroute The cream GP gave me I think is more effective than the anulsol stuff I got OTC. They are still there but reduced in size and not sore any more, though GP said to expect them to remain now until I give birth since mine really do seem to be caused by pressure as I'm not constimapted or anything like that (mine are external though do don't know if that makes a difference). I mentioned it to midwife as well, and she said what happens during labour to them is very varied - could get worse, could stay totally the same, could dissapear very quickly once the pressure of baby has gone, really it just depends, and said they can offer ice packs and things if its sore after labour x
