Is this decreased movement?

So I’m 36/37 weeks and for 3 days my baby hasn’t had her huge kick offs I call them where I sit still at dinner time and lay in bed at bed time where she goes crazy! She has been moving and I feel her often but she hasn’t had her very awake time. Last night I lay with my hands on my tummy as that usually upsets her having a bit of weight on her and she did move a fair amount. She’s moved this morning it’s 7am she’s moved a good few times it’s very low down just little movements. I don’t know if maybe she’s turned around ready for birth and she’s kicking into my back and perhaps I’m not feeling it. But it’s got me a little worried is all. Would this be a cause for concern?

Call the midwife! It's not worth worrying yourself over when you can go in and they can have a listen. I think 99% of women have this exact worry a few times whilst incubating so they'll absolutely be wonderful to you and set your mind at ease.

Merryclaire · 28/08/2022 07:26

She’s probably turned around and doesn’t have as much room for big movements, but changes are always worth noting and if worried you should go in for monitoring. You’re so close now.

KangarooKenny · 28/08/2022 07:32

They do seem to move less as they get less space to move in.

virtuallyreal · 28/08/2022 07:43

It's definitely NOT true that babies move less towards the end. That's the one myth that the Kicks Count charity say is one of the most dangerous bits of "advice" people say to pregnant women who are worried about reduced movements. You must call your midwife. It's likely to be absolutely fine (I went in 3 times during my pregnancy to be checked) but they would rather check everyone and have 99 out of a hundred be fine rather than miss the 1 person who needs help. Good luck, I'm sure you and your baby will be well but for peace of mind please get checked out The Kicks Count charity has lots of useful information. Their website is here www.kickscount.org.uk/your-babys-movements

ellesbellesxxx · 28/08/2022 07:44

Please check out “kicks count” they say that any change in pattern of movements needs to be checked. Chances are everything is fine but midwives would rather see you xxx

I would get checked.
I would also be 99% sure that everything is fine and the baby has just moved position. But there’s nothing to lose by checking.

They DO NOT move less due to less space, this is the worst myth to believe. Any changes in movement need to be checked so please call maternity triage and go in.

Holly60 · 28/08/2022 07:50

I think if you are questioning it it's worth getting checked.

Trust your instinct. If your baby's movements have changed then go and make sure she is ok and not trying to tell you something.

I'm sure it will be absolutely fine, but just make sure.

Do you have a maternity assessment unit at your hospital? You can walk in and they'll monitor you to make sure all is well. Or just contact your midwife and they will put you in the right direction

Moonshine160 · 28/08/2022 07:55

I would call your maternity unit. I have found in later pregnancy that movements shouldn’t decrease in frequency but they do “feel” different. Any concern though and you should get checked.

It’s very dangerous advice for people to say that movements decrease because baby has less room. It’s simply not true.

MummyToBe2022 · 28/08/2022 08:08

Go and get checked. I'm 38 weeks and I had exactly the same on Friday.
My baby is a little wriggler. On Thursday I could still feel baby move but not as intense.
Friday morning I hadn't felt anything like I usually would.
They told me to go and get checked out.
Baby is absolutely fine and started moving much more. They told me to not wait and to ring as soon as I was concerned.

They were lovely and couldn't of done more.
It's better to get checked and find that baby is happy and healthy, just to put your mind at rest x

Dangerous comment

This is NOT true. Babies movements DO NOT reduce later on in pregnancy.

This poster is spreading extremely dangerous miss information that could cause real harm.

annoyedneighbour1 · 28/08/2022 08:34

Also I forgot to mention, yes op, not need to go to triage... now.

Not in 3 more days, or this afternoon, you need to call now and go in for assessment.

Your babies movement are the only thing they have to tell us how happy or unhappy they are in there.

6079SmithW · 28/08/2022 08:40

As PP have said, any change or reduction in movement - definitely call your midwife/maternity unit.

Do you have a ‘count the kicks’ chart? I found it really helpful as it gives you an actual account of what’s happening rather than a thought/feeling of it.

Hiddenvoice · 28/08/2022 08:40

If there are any changes in movement then please contact your midwife/ triage. If your baby starts moving less or even more then you need to get checked out.
Most likely the baby has moved position and you aren’t feeling the kicks in the usual place but it’s completely untrue that babies kicks are less often the closer you get to birth. On the day of my dds birth, she was kicking around like mad- just her usual pattern.
Phone triage and tell them how you are feeling, they should take you in to monitor your baby’s heart rate and hopefully scan. Please don’t feel nervous about this as triage are used to it and would much rather have you checked than leave it.

Cakecakecheese · 28/08/2022 10:08

Always get checked. I went in for reduced movement, he was absolutely fine but the midwife said I did the right thing, always better to be safe than sorry.

BlueBunny23 · 28/08/2022 19:17

I did go and get checked baby met them criteria and they were happy but I have to go back and see a consultant next Monday and to go back immediately if I feel this happens again.
