Taking baby home?

Hello everyone

Just wondering if anyones had an experiences of the following...

The car seat I have for baby is one of those fixed ones in the car. Doesn't have a handle.

How do I bring baby home? As in, can I take baby into the car park in a pushchair and put them in the car seat or does the car seat need to be carried in (with no handle)?

Thank you

And yes some seats advertised as from newborn really don't fit newborns well at all. Some require baby being 6 months + to get a good fit.

@AprilRae91 Where did you get that advice from? It's at odds with anything I've ever heard! I hope it wasn't Halfords or similar - they are buggers for giving duff information Sad

I was in hospital for a while after ds1 and o asked why we can’t carry babies had to wheel them everywhere and when it was time to go home why they had to go in car seats.

midwife told me it was something to do with preventing accidents ie baby being dropped. I guess maybe to do with the hospital not wanting to be sued for negligence if a new mum dropped her baby

We have a fixed seat.
Ds was born 2 years ago, during covid lockdown so dh wasn’t allowed back in hospital anyway. I put baby into sling, and just walked out with him with our luggage in my hands.

tbh is was far easier. A heavy car seat I would have had to carry just after birth with luggage would have been heavy.

That's what I assumed. And then I read someone say that you NEED the car seat to leave the hospital so it made me wary!

This sort of thing drives me up the wall.

They can’t hold you or baby against your will. You aren’t a prisoner. You haven’t been sectioned either.

Politely but firmly tell them thank you for their concern, you have an appropriate infant car seat in the car. They are welcome to come and see it as you leave if puts their mind to rest but you are going to go home with your baby now. Thank you. Goodbye.

I just walked out with my newborn as our seat is fixed too. No one said anything.

I just walked out carrying mine, no one even asked about the car seat

I think most people do the whole car seat thing because it's easier for dad/birthing partner to carry out to the car, as well as any bags you might have. Not saying you're not capable of carrying your own bags but depending on how rough your labour is and how much energy you have you'll probably need a hand with them. I know I couldn't of carried our 3 bags, or the baby in my arms, so my partner did that while I waddled behind haha x

I have a fixed 360 car seat so got DH to wheel the pram in when it was time for us to go x

@Hugasauras ah the one we’ve bought is an amazing fit for newborns the insert is very structured. The carriers were useless in my car as it’s a hatchback and none of them spin all the way around.
