Having an ELCS for a few reasons, which was booked in for 1st September. Everyone told me how great that was as LO would be the oldest in their year rather than the youngest.

However, today the dr requested it get brought forward because the baby’s abdomen growth has tailed off a little. The earliest they could do was one day ahead - so now 31st August.

Seems pointless to me but obviously should assume dr knows best. I’m just worried now everyone convinced me that being September born was much better than August.

Any thoughts on whether it’s a big disadvantage? Obviously baby’s health is the most important thing but it’s one day that makes a big difference!

I did wonder that - but thought you get 30 hours a week of free childcare at ages 3-4? Is that hard to get?

You do and it’s not hard to get, but the funding is for term-time only and doesn’t cover everything. I still pay about £300 a month for DD who goes to nursery 3 days a week on top of the 30 hours funding. That’s considerably more expensive than the wrap around care we’ll need for primary school so there’s definitely a substantial extra cost.

Hope it all goes well whatever decision is made!

How did you get on @Mitzymarvel ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/09/2022 09:30

Some just 4yr are ready. Some nearly 5 aren’t ready

i have 2 friends who have just 4yr this week. One will be starting school Monday at 4yr 6 days. Other mum is deferring a year so he will be the eldest next sept as she isn’t ready

I think it’s better they start the year they should be in

it is a shame they don’t do Jan intake anymore the way they did when I was young

you can always do mornings and pick up early if uou feel not coping /too tired

Update: I spoke to 2 other consultants who both felt there was no need to move the CS forward. Managed to get it moved back to start of September due to a cancellation and our little bundle of love is now here safe and sound.

Its impossible to predict the future but we felt a September birthday gave us an extra year at home with her and statistically speaking usually has benefits.

Of course she might end up being very mature and bright and could have handled school at 4 very well. It’s an unusual position to have a choice but we followed the advice of 2 teachers in the family and also our instincts.

Ah, Congratulations Mitzy Flowers what a great ending to the thread: a healthy baby!

I have 3 children all in their teens and twenties now and don't think their birthdays made any difference in the grand scale of life! However, I'm glad you got your September baby and medical opinion allowed you to wait a day.

Enjoy your new baby x

I dare say you'd be more concerned about the health of your baby rather than what year they will go into school!

Grow up and give your head a wobble.

RTFT.....

Baby has been had and not one, but two consultants agreed it was ok to delay the couple of days in the end.

Congratulations @Mitzymarvel ! Enjoy your little girl!

Think of the nursery fees you’ll save…
