Does a long femur length always translate to a long baby?

I have been thinking about this since my scan last week. They measured the femur as being on the 97th centile, so this is presumably no tiddler . Not surprising I suppose, as dps family are all tall, but I wonder if this can be misleading? I am only 21 weeks, but I have been getting huge kicks in my ribs all day, which is surely too soon? dd was quite short at birth and I dont remember her kicking my ribs until much much later. I'm not seeign the midwife for another three weeks, but if baby is overly large will they be able to pick this up?

My DS1 had quite long femur and was quite a long baby (about 75th centile although 9th centile weight). He is 91st centile height now though so he was meant to be tall.

That said, at 21 weeks it is difficult to get an accurate measurement as a mm here or there makes a big difference.

It doesn't sound like it would be strange if he was tall though, if his father is. I suppose you might be carrying higher if you are getting kicked in the ribs. They will probably pick up if the baby is large although it will be more obvious nearer your due date but as my DS illustrates long does not necessarily mean big!

DD1 had a short femur length when it was measured in my scans. She was 53cms which is a bit longer than average I think. She had a very long back like her dad which is where she got her length from. 21 weeks does seem early to get kicked in the ribs, I'm also 21 weeks and feel most of my kicks low down but my baby is probably feet down and your is feet up!
