Experience of miscarriage at 6 weeks / travelling abroad

Hi,

I’ve mentioned this on the due in May group but just wanted to ask here for advice/ experiences.

Basically I’m going on holiday next Monday to Menorca and I’ve just found out I’m pregnant. I’ll be 5-6 weeks pregnant while I’m abroad.

I’m petrified of miscarrying as I had two chemicals earlier this year.

Trying to be as prepared as I can and look at travel insurance, medical facilities abroad etc. But just wondering what a miscarriage at five - six weeks is typically like, is it something you have to see the doctor for or would it be like my chemicals just a bit heavier?

I know it sounds like an odd question and I’m being pessimistic but I think I’d feel better if I knew what to expect if it was worst case scenario.

Also after advice from anyone who has been abroad in early stages of pregnancy!

Thanks in advance.

I also have health anxiety which is definitely not helping this situation 🙈

I had an mc whilst on holiday abroad at around 8 weeks. It was like a heavy period with lots of cramping spread over 3-4 days, then gradually tailing off. I didn't bother seeing a doctor because it was just like my previous mcs. I made sure I ate healthily, did some light exercise and otherwise took things easy. I expected it to happen to be honest, so I took plenty of sanitary towels, extra underwear and paracetamol with me. Being in holiday at the time was in someways good, because I didn't have to worry about work.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Thank you that’s really reassuring though of course I’m sorry for your losses. I was definitely planning on taking sanitary towels but good idea for extra underwear, I just think I’ll feel less anxious if prepared.

I had one at 5 and a half weeks and the cramps were a bit more painful than a bad period but cocodamol and a hot water bottle really helped. I didn’t feel the need to visit a doctor, but just rested at home. I personally found the emotional side of it more challenging than the physical side of things. As the pp said, take lots of extra underwear, sanitary towels and painkillers. Fingers crossed you won’t need them 🤞🏼💕

I had a miscarriage in January just before 6 weeks and it felt like a heavier, more crampier version of my period. Doctor’s advice was to rest up and take painkillers for the pain if needed, but aside from that there was nothing they could do and there was no need to see them.

Thank you ladies, I’m so sorry you both had losses. But it’s reassuring to hear that physically it is fairly manageable.
