Feeling sick until I eat

Hi, I am 8 weeks pregnant and struggling not to feel sick and tired. I have to say, I am already feeling I’m going to hate being pregnant.

I am trying to figure out my sickness habits, anyone else feel like they have to keep eating to not feel sick?

fairly standard, eating eases the nausea

Wouldloveanother · 23/08/2022 15:42

Yes that’s exactly where I am. If you hop over to the April 2023 thread you’ll see a few of us are snacking little and often to keep the nausea at bay. I’m 6+6 and threw up for the first time this morning. It is grim, but it does get better - second trimester is usually pretty good, the sickness etc eases off but no massive bump!

ApolloandDaphne · 23/08/2022 15:43

Yup. I had that with all my pregnancies. I had to eat little and often to keep the nausea at bay. Mostly crisps and cheese spread sandwiches!

GreyNovember · 23/08/2022 15:43

Yeah that's quite common. I just grazed constantly on little snacks all throughout the first trimester as I felt very sick if I let myself get too hungry, but also couldn't stomach a large meal.

I absolutely hated the first trimester of both my pregnancies. I was genuinely miserable. But after about 12 weeks I had fairly easy pregnancies, so a rough start definitely doesn't mean you'll suffer throughout!

Watchthesunrise · 23/08/2022 15:47

This is pregnancy. You have to eat constantly!

Regressionisreal · 23/08/2022 15:48

Totally normal OP. I kept a stash of ginger biscuits in my bedside drawer so I could scoff them first thing when my empty stomach made me feel sick.

It probably won’t last. I woke up at 11 weeks pregnant and every symptom had disappeared overnight - like over a cliff disappeared, not gradual. Felt totally normal again and I did for weeks until the bump appeared. Baby is currently 6 months old and shouting at my husband trying to put him down for a nap 👍

SummerLobelia · 23/08/2022 15:48

yes indeed! eating stops the nausea although that seems counter intuitive!

I ate tiny amounts often. But both pregnancies the second trimester the nausea had gone. So very best of luck!

Bluesky2507 · 23/08/2022 15:54

Yes. I found baby bell cheese, crisps, crackers and fruit/nuts good for snacking, I always kept some in my bag. Sometimes I would feel the best whilst eating, and the minute I stopped eating the nausea would come back!

Tommo26 · 23/08/2022 16:02

Thanks all.

how did you keep the weight off? Only snack which seems to stop me feeling sick is bread! I so worried about piling the weight on!

Best advice I received for this was to have Tuc crackers and a big glass of water beside the bed and eating before my feet even touched the floor in the morning. It helped with the initial wave. I then just grazed all day on crackers and grapes. The nausea usually passed for me by 14 weeks.

MissMaple82 · 23/08/2022 16:31

I was like like, constant nausea from day one to the finish line! The only bit of temporary relief came from eating cheese and crisp sandwiches or cheese on toast! I gained massively!

MissMaple82 · 23/08/2022 16:32

I did pile on the weight! But fuck it, deal with it after you've had the baby. I didn't care at the time I just wanted to get through each day as best I could

PinkDaffodil2 · 23/08/2022 16:34

Both of mine I was like this till 9/10 weeks then it got loads loads bette so hopefully things will improve soon. It’s so nice when the tiredness lifts!

Outlyingtrout · 23/08/2022 16:41

Pregnancy sickness is the pits. You have my sympathy.

Some things that worked for me (possible TMI)

Drinking a large glass of water - in the bathroom - immediately after waking up. I was still sick, but puking up a big glass of water is preferable to puking up bile and dry heaving.

Drinking plenty of water with food. Same as above - if you’re going to vomit then it’s less terrible if you’ve got plenty of liquid in there.

Eating little and often. Big meals were a challenge.

Eating whatever I fancied (in moderation). It’s important to try and get some decent nutrition onboard but ultimately when you’re feeling lousy whatever you can manage is a win.

ZooMount · 23/08/2022 16:46

Yes you have to keep eating and no you can't do much about the weight, just let it go. Try and eat relatively healthy things if you can but if not don't worry you can lose it when the baby is here. Try and keep active if you can.

GalactatingGoddess · 23/08/2022 16:48

I had this also - baby bels, crisps and pears were my fave

Chewbecca · 23/08/2022 16:57

Constant nibbling on Ritz biscuits helped this a bit for me. Beans on toast for meals. It did pass.

Hellocatshome · 23/08/2022 17:00

Yep that was me for my second pregnancy I used to have to eat just to not feel sick. Put on a fair bit of weight so be careful.

EverydayIsPJday · 23/08/2022 18:31

Yep, normal I'm afraid and can last the whole stretch. Horrible, horrible, horrible. But lots of solidarity on here. Try your best to have healthy snacks, but it often gets to the point you have to eat what you can get down you. Spaghetti hoops on toast for me, coleslaw (which I hate when not pregnant) and I absolutely CANNOT drink water or squash. It's been tough. 36 weeks this week and cannot wait to feel normal again...
Try a few bits and see what you can get down you, but don't bulk buy anything if you find something you like...I have boxes of stuff that I loved and then poof! woke up the next day thinking it was the devil's food...alot of waste 🙄
