Neck and shoulder pain on left side

I wasn’t really sure is this related to my pregnancy (11weeks now) but it just started out of no where after I came back from hospital scan and in the afternoon I just started to have this neck and shoulder pain particularly on left side. It was so uncomfortable so I rang the GP three days later as it seems getting worse.

However GP was not helpful at all, she just asked me to keep continue taking paracetamol and do some gentle massage. She wasn’t interested to see me at all!

I tried everything I can , some days it was better and some days it worse. The pain can go up to the back of my ear and also the head. I just wasn’t sure what can I do. Apart from morning sickness that make me so ill and now neck and shoulder pain that make the whole situation worse.

Just asking if anyone experienced this before during the pregnancy and how to deal with it?

Thank you.

Gp wouldn't need to see you for that, they're useless for muscular or physiological pain like that. Try a physio or osteopath.

Not sure if same/similar but I had an episode a couple of weeks ago at 30wks. Started day1 with odd pain in neck when swallowing, thought nothing of it next day was absolute agony, neck and shoulder stiff, avoided food and drink to not make it worse, paracetamol made no difference. Tried to get a hold of a gp the whole day as was told need to be seen to get smth for the pain. When I eventually was seen at 10.45pm was told to ice it and take ibuprofen if paracetamol doesn't help!? Was refused anything else for the pain and unable to confirm what has caused it just that it'll likely go away in a few days. It has gone away but am now really conscious of how I sleep and avoid any sudden neck movements just in case.

You can usually self refer for physio, but you could be waiting several weeks. I'd just get local recommendations for a private physio, the one I go to is about £40 a session

@Kirsike Mine already almost two weeks and yesterday night I can’t really find a pisition that I won’t feel pain. 😂 End up I have to take paracetamol. Paracetamol actually works for me but I can’t live with paracetamol everyday. It’s been nearly two weeks now and I have to take at least one every day so that I can continue with my daily life.

Will call GP later for physio referral. Really hope it help🙏🏻😂

I thought you are not allowed with ibuprofen if you are pregnant?

Definitely don't take ibuprofen when pregnant! Have you tried also alternating ice and heat on the muscle? I found that helped when I pulled my shoulder in early pregnancy. I think the relaxin in our bodies when pregnant makes us more prone to pulling muscles. If you can afford to, I'd recommend going private to a physio as the wait to see one on the NHS could be ages

Thanks for all the advices.💕💕 Will try to see any private physio near me. Never encounter this problems before and just hope it will settle soon as I’m taking a long haul flight to visit my family in early Sept😂😂😂

Hi currently going through the same its been 4 days and the pain is traveling to my head. My neck is very stiff and particularly sore on the left side.
I was just wondering if you got anything that helped and how long you had it?
