Baby transverse - panicking - 35 weeks

35 weeks pregnant with second baby. First baby was a vaginal birth. I had pre eclampsia with my first pregnancy so I’m seeing my midwife weekly for blood pressure and urine checks. Also been having scans every 2-3 weeks since I was 24 weeks pregnant. Baby has only been head down on one of these scans, the rest of the time they were breech but had moved head down at the last scan at 34 weeks. Midwife has confirmed today that baby is now transverse. I thought they were because my bump has changed shape and it’s so painful. It will be checked again at 36 weeks next week but she’s said that if they are in the same position it’s highly likely I will be admitted to hospital until they give me a c section at around 39 weeks due to the risk of cord prolapse. It’s not an option for me to be admitted for 3 weeks, I have a 3 year old to care for at home. I told her this and she just shrugged and said I would have to. Surely they can’t make me do this? I have been googling and cord prolapse only happens in 1% of cases. DH would have to have time off work unpaid for 3 weeks which we would struggle to afford and would mean he has no time off after baby is born to help me post c section. The only grandparent in the picture is my mum who still works full time, other than half a day off on a Monday. Anyone have experience of this?

Well I doubt they can make you, I've had a cord prolapse though and luckily I was in hospital . My waters had already broken though which is why I was admitted

You can ask when you need to be admitted - DD was transverse at a scan at 36 weeks, but I wasn't admitted until 37+5, and was in for 10 days before she was born. There was one other woman on the ward for the same thing - again, admitted after 36 weeks. So it might not be as long as 3 weeks.

I'm pretty sure you can't be forced to go into hospital, but the NHS wouldn't want to admit you for fun. Will your toddler not be in nursery soon anyway? Or could you find a childminder?

I know I sound irresponsible and like I’m not putting baby first but I also have DS to think of. He is with my mum for half a day on a Monday and is starting pre school 9-3 on a Tuesday and Wednesday but this isn’t until week commencing 12th august. And he’s still going to need looking after the rest of the time. I’ve tried all the spinning babies exercises and will continue with these :(
If they could give me a c section earlier then this would really help but the midwife was dismissive and basically said I would have to do as I was told.

I was unstable at 36+6. Going in between transverse, oblique, breech. All over the place.

Was going to be admitted after the weekend so 37+2 or there abouts.

Babe moved head down during that time.

Don’t panic yet. 35 is still time.

The reason they wait to do the c-section is that babies born by ELCS before 39 weeks are more likely to have breathing difficulties, as they don't get squeezed as they would during a vaginal delivery (apparently it helps get mucus out of the lungs). How far from the hospital do you live? Because you could discuss staying at home, but going in with the first sign of labour?

She is trying to keep you safe. That is her priority.. she's try to ensure you and your baby are safe through pregnancy, delivery and birth 😧
