4th Miscarriage in a row - looking for hope!

Hopeandprayers · 17/08/2022 18:54

Just find out I’ve miscarried at 8 weeks. Going for surgical management in a few days.

DS was my first pregnancy and was uneventful and trouble free. I’ve since miscarried at 10, 15, 5 and 8 weeks.

Started Prednisolone, aspirin, hydroxychloroquine, progesterone after 2nd miscarriage. All blood tests have come back normal. Only off thing is slightly high NK activation cells.

Due to have hysteroscopy in a few weeks but struggling to stay hopeful. Anyone with similar stories achieved success?

Praying everyone has or will have their rainbow baby some day!

@Hopeandprayers I'm very sorry for your losses that is heartbreaking, did they by any chance advise you on the trigger limts of the NK cells?

I am in the same boat as you with my blood tests all bloods were normal and they had a borderline theory on my NK cells too. Me and others on hear want to know if we're all being given the same information based on the study.

I am currently pregnant with baba number 4, I declined treatment as I've read too much stuff on the Internet and of mixed opinions on NK cells.

We're they able to tell you why you had these losses at all?

Hopeandprayers · 17/08/2022 20:36

@Butterfly3xo they said my NK activity markers were slightly raised but my number of NK cells were completely normal.

it’s so hard to know whether we are being given the same info!! I hate how this area of medicine is such a grey area and there are so many variables.

the only thing I haven’t had investigated is whether I have polyps, fibroids, septate uterus etc - hopefully the hysteroscopy I am due to have will shed some light on this.

I am tempted to not have any medication if we decide to try again. Keen to know how you get on - how far along are you? Wishing you all the very best!

Never got answers for me previous miscarriages - karyotyping etc done and all were fine - nothing untoward. My situation remains a mystery and not convinced I will find the answer.

@Hopeandprayers it really is a mindfield.

Wishing you the best of luck on the hysteoscopy.

I'm just 7 weeks, I'm glued to the Internet looking for information about these so called unlicensed drugs it's difficult when your not a doctor.

It's things like this study that makes me not want to participate their NK clinal reasearch. I read there was a study on mice where they decided to eliminate all of their natural killer cells, this study resulted in the mice loosing 100% of their pregnancys.

How did you get kryping done I keep thinking they test the baby but isit they test the parents?

Will keep you posed I'm just taking vitamin D folic acid and B12, as I took pregnecare last time and my arms randomly swelled up I think it was too much iron for me or something.

Hopeandprayers · 17/08/2022 21:29

Funnily enough I didn’t agree with pregnacare either so switched to seven seas pregnancy tabs.

they did cytogenetic testing and histology on the products of conception to ascertain if there were any issues. I think they can do further genetic testing on the parents if anything comes up on the products of conception.

Fingers and toes crossed for you!

I am sorry for your losses, OP. Yes I have had 4 losses through IVF, with slightly high NK, and then went on to have a baby - she's now 7 weeks old. Did everything you did, but what changed it for us was going to ARGC clinic. They put me on intralipids and then a few doses of IVIG when I was pregnant. Expensive, but the only thing that worked. Best of luck to you!

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 17/08/2022 21:34

I can offer hope!
I had 2 mcs then my son then I had another 5 miscarriages.
All bloods normal.
Reoccurring miscarriage clinic offered aspirin, clexane, high dose folic acid and something else. (can’t remember what it was)
I still miscarried.
It just took longer, was more torrential blood loss and pain was worse.
Then after giving up hope and stopping trying I found myself pregnant again. No extra treatments or drugs, just naturally pregnant.
Fully expected to miscarry again, just waited for it to happen.
it didn’t.
At 43 I had my long awaited precious 2nd baby!

Butterfly3xo · 17/08/2022 21:36

I see fingers crossed we never need to find out again, interesting how they also mention the NK cells but you have a healthy DS.

Wishing you well hun x

Butterfly3xo · 17/08/2022 21:41

@ColinRobinsonsfamiliar Congratulations to you that really is a blessing I totally get that waiting for something awful to happen I'm in that patch right now praying! thank you for you happy ending that's lovely to hear

Hopeandprayers · 17/08/2022 22:32

Thank you @orangefolly. I have been on intralipids too for this last pregnancy but not worked. Haven’t had IVIG!

congrats on your little one!

Hopeandprayers · 17/08/2022 22:38

Thanks such a lovely story @ColinRobinsonsfamiliar . Delighted for you and the positivity I need right now.

I know what you mean - I feel like every MC gets more traumatic with more pain and drama.

if you don’t mind me asking, how long between your last MC and your last successful pregnancy? ive had 4 MCs in 14 months and thinking I might just need to give my body a rest. Just don’t know how long??

OP posts:
Hopeandprayers · 17/08/2022 22:44

@Butterfly3xo i know I find it strange too! My consultant explained a theory that it’s like an allergy - first time you eat something your body doesn’t react. Second time your lips might tingle, third time your lips might swell and each time it gets worse and worse. Similar theory with each pregnancy.
perhaps I was in remission when I had my DS.

I have all these thoughts and what ifs but coming round to the idea that they may never be answered.

praying every success comes your way @Butterfly3xo! It’s hard to be excited and not worry. I’m sure you are aware of symptom and twinge in your body right now and on constant high alert. It’s draining, I know the feeling. Hope you manage to find ways to relax and distract yourself.

Oh OP, I've had 2 miscarriages in a row and struggled, I can't even imagine what you've been through 💔. Miscarriage is truly one of the worst things that a woman can experience 😥, sending you ❤️ .

ButchersGirl · 17/08/2022 22:54

OP, my friend had 9 miscarriages at various stages of pregnancy and then went on to have two healthy beautiful children.

They never found out the cause of the miscarriages, however she does have a bi-corn uterus (I think that's how it's spelled?) So she personally thinks it may be that.

There is hope. 💐

Butterfly3xo · 17/08/2022 22:59

@Hopeandprayers I think managing stress in pregnancies generally is important your right best to chill.

Which consultant are you under?

I really don't want to go though it again my heart goes out to those who were further along, as I don't know about anyone else but my impression of child birth so far is like some how you go from Sober to as though uve had a bottle of vodka in like 20 seconds.

Not sure if that the same for everyone since having the coil before my Doctor said I can get cervical virtio which makes u go dizzy, like fall down type dizzy when neves get knocked. Dunno if that's normal or not.

Iggi999 · 17/08/2022 22:59

Hello OP, I'm sorry for your losses.
I had a child and then 4 mcs. Only the final one was when taking treatment for NKCs. It doesn't surprise me they could affect subsequent pgs and not the first - for example in my first pg I developed hypothyroidism, I didn't have that before. Anyway I finally had my 2nd dc who is now 9.
My third mc was tested, and there was a chromosomal disorder. So even when you are getting help for one issue, there's always going to be a chance of "bad egg" type thing happening too.
I think you just have to keep rolling the dice, but it takes such a toll.

HariboHippo · 17/08/2022 23:05

I had two miscarriages at 11 and 17 weeks (after 5 years of infertility) and was later diagnosed via a hysteroscopy with polyps right in the centre of my uterus that they believed caused the infertility and the miscarriages as the babies grew. Polyps removed and next pregnancy successful. I was on cyclogest and aspirin just in case and also had a stitch put in due to an incompetent cervix but my rainbow is now 8.

Hopeandprayers · 20/08/2022 08:52

@ButchersGirl @GirlMama21 @HariboHippo @Iggi999 @orangefolly @Butterfly3xo @ColinRobinsonsfamiliar thank you all your lovely messages and pearls of hope!

sorry for silence, I had my ERPC brought forward to yesterday so have been in hospital. So glad it’s over and feel pretty good today.

I’m just going to focus on recovery now and in a few months time consider further investigations. Thank you for all your love x

Butterfly3xo · 20/08/2022 09:00

@Hopeandprayers wishing you the best recovery possible, with lots of happy TV programmes and a nice fan to and chill and relax with untill your better x

ChinChilly · 20/08/2022 14:09

@Hopeandprayers I had 3 MC’s and just had my rainbow baby 4 weeks ago. I know you said all your bloods have come back normal but my GP also said all my bloods were normal it was only when I had tests under the MC clinic that they found my thyroid levels were well out and that was potentially causing the MCs, I was put on levothyroxin and started taking proceive TTC vitamins then their pregnancy ones when I was pregnant.

’Normal’ thyroid TSH levels are different for everyday life than for TTC and pregnancy. For TTC and pregnancy your TSH levels should be below 2/2.5 but your GP will probably say anything under 5 is normal

Hopeandprayers · 20/08/2022 14:18

@ChinChilly thank you that is kind of you! I’ve had all my bloods tested by my fertility clinic and they are all fine. My thyroid levels are all within range for pregnancy.

OP posts:
ChinChilly · 20/08/2022 14:35

@Hopeandprayers Ahh that’s positive then. Recurrent miscarriage is just awful and nobody should have to go through it. The proceive vitamins are worth looking into as they use folate rather than folic acid, some peoples bodies can’t absorb folic acid properly as it’s not in it’s natural state. Ultimately I don’t know what made this little one stick around it could all be coincidental but there is hope and you’ll get your rainbow soon I’m sure

Babyghirl · 20/08/2022 19:08

@Hopeandprayers
Sorry for all your losses, I had 4 miscarriages ttc num 1, I'm now 21 weeks and I can say I have and still am a nervous rack. X

Butterfly3xo · 21/08/2022 16:31

@Babyghirl 21 weeks is a massive achievement, wishing you every success, did they say why you had these losses before?
I've had 3 MC and they all last progressively longer 4.6 weeks, 5 weeks then the last one was 7 weeks the last one I started getting complications at 7 weeks and lost at 7.5. Weeks. I'm now 7.3 weeks feeling ok with you on the nervous reck just trying to stay calm andx
