34 weeks baby transverse

Due to pre eclampsia previously I have had regular scans from 20 weeks onwards. Baby was transverse until 28 weeks and then was breech from then on. I had a scan on Monday at 34 weeks and the night before I felt baby turn from breech to head down, it was the weirdest sensation and then I felt instant relief and like I could breathe better and didn’t have the constant ache in my ribs. The scan confirmed baby was slightly diagonal but pretty much head down. 24 hours later and baby is transverse again, has been since yesterday afternoon. My bump has gone into a weird rectangular shape and is bulging out at the sides and it is so so sore, I hardly slept last night. Baby also feels like they’re doing constant somersaults, my stomach is a washing machine, I am worried they’re going to be getting tangled up in the cord!. They just don’t seem to be settling in any sort of position. I am only tiny and 5ft 1 so I didn’t think they’d have enough room to still be doing this at this stage.

Has anyone been through similar? Did baby eventually settle into the head down position?

My big-headed 8lb-er went from breech to transverse to footling breech then diagonal then breech again ... until finally going head down the morning of the ELCS! Painful, and like you said, I couldn't believe he wasn't trussed up in the cord. Sympathy.

Sorry to hear @Moonshine160. I can only sympathise. My baby was transverse for most of my pregnancy, maybe 22 weeks onwards. He stayed that way till around 35 weeks. He then went head down and ah the relief! I never knew all that pain was because of his position. Anyway he did flip about till delivery but stayed down, he just turned back to back mid labour but that's another story. I hope you LO turns head down and stays head down now. The discomfort of a transverse baby is horrid.

Thanks both. This is my second pregnancy and I never knew that the movements could be so bloody painful! It’s all high up in my ribs and in my sides. I feel like they’re constantly trying to get comfy in there but can’t?! I’ve read that with transverse babies they can keep you in hospital from 36/37 weeks in case you go into labour as it’s a big risk to baby. It’s not possible for me due to childcare for my little boy and I’m panicking about it!

Try the spinning babies website to try and encourage baby to turn. I also read crawling on all fours really encourages baby to move.
