Is a growth scan routine after reduced movements?

Hi all,

I'm currently 26+4 weeks pregnant and my bump does seem a lot smaller than it was when I was at this gestation with my first and I do have a raised bmi so have a growth scan at 33 weeks but I've been in hospital today with reduced movements - baby is absolutely fine and was as wriggly as anything once I got here and her heart rate is fine but they've booked a scan in for tomorrow - is this routine or do you they have a reason to be worried?

Thank you

Usually they just monitor but because it sounds like you're also measuring small that's why

How many times have you been in with reduced movements? In our hospital trust it's routine to scan after 2/3 episodes of reduced movements. Did the midwife use a tape measure to measure your bump?

This is my first time and no, they told me they've booked the scan in half way through the monitoring.

No one measured my bump, I just had those pink and blue straps on.

It sounds as though it's just routine in your trust (although would be quite expensive I imagine). When you go to the scan you can ask the sonographer if they know why you've been booked in. Do they give you anything for your maternity notes?

My trust do a follow up scan, I had a few episodes of reduced movements with my son, each time I went in, I was booked for a scan the following day even though monitoring all came back fine. They said it was to check blood flow etc to ensure the placenta was still working as it should. I had reduced movements at 32wks and had monitoring and a scan, again at 38.5weeks with scan and again at 39 weeks - No scan the last time though as I went in the next day to be induced x

I had a scan the day after after the sole instance of reduced movements with DD1. Seems standard in my area.

I had multiple additional scans due to reduced movements. Good luck OP.

I had this with dd. They checked the blood flow in the placenta and cord.

I had a scan the day after I went in with reduced movements last week. On the day I went in they had listened to the heartbeat, taking urine sample, measured my temp and my blood and said everything appears fine, but in my notes the midwife wrote they'd recommended a scan because I was very anxious- which I was. So it seems sometimes it's to give you extra reassurance, not because they are actually concerned something is wrong
I hope it gives you extra reassurance too OP x

Yes

I had quite a few because I had an anterior placenta so couldn't feel the movements very well and measured small throughout my pregnancy

theotherfossilsister · 18/08/2022 17:47

I had this and they diagnosed IUGR but this is uncommon. I'm so glad they found it though even though it did ok lead to daily monitoring and be eventually c section. He's perfect.
