Private scan at 8 weeks?

LilyDaniels · 16/08/2022 18:57

I'm 6+2 weeks today and have booked a private scan for 8 weeks (next Sunday).

Part of me feels silly doing this but I just really would like to know there is a heartbeat!

My colleagues wife had a miscarriage today at 9 weeks which really made me nervous.

Anyone else booked a private early scan? Is it worth it?

I had one at 7 weeks and 4 days. Obviously seeing a heartbeat doesn't guarantee that a miscarriage won't happen later on but unfortuantely there are no guarantees until you have baby in your arms anyway.
For me it was the reassurance I needed at the time. Well worth it in my opinion.

I had a private scan at 6 weeks to confirm I was pregnant and then again at 8 weeks to see the development and heart beat. It helped me feel reassured but there was still a worry there.
One thing to check is they might request to do an internal scan if they think you are not as far a long as you think.

I had one at 8 weeks and found it very reassuring. I also had one at 10 weeks. I didn't want to invest too much emotionally only to find out at my 12 week scan that there was nothing there or no heartbeat. I know miscarriages can happen at any time, but it just put my mind at rest.

I’m super early, only 3 weeks but im planning on booking a private scan for around the 7 week mark 🙂

I had a private scan at 8 weeks which helped me massively. I found out so early (8DPO) that I was pregnant and found the wait for a 12 week scan soooo long.

At 8 weeks I got to see the heartbeat and the baby measured correctly for my dates which put my mind at ease so much, especially since I'd had some spotting at 7 weeks.

I also read online that after seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks the risk of miscarriage is a lot lower. Xx

I had a scan at 8 weeks exactly and it was such a relief and really settled my anxiety. Good luck Smile

FirstTimeTryer93 · 16/08/2022 19:49

It's totally worth it. I just had this scan done Sunday gone, 8 weeks 3 days and saw its little heart beat xxx

I had early scans. They do give some reassurance, but be realistic about how much reassurance and for how long it lasts. As soon as I left the clinic I would start questioning how reliable the scan had been and it wouldn't be long before I felt I needed another scan... you can become a bit reliant on them. I hope everything goes well for you Flowers

I had one at 8+3 and was really relieved to see a heartbeat. It didn't take all the anxiety away but I'm very glad I did.

babymamaxox · 16/08/2022 20:33

I had one at 8 weeks as I started worrying when my symptoms started disappearing, I felt so relieved when I saw a heartbeat. I'm nearly 10 weeks and am tempted to book another scan as I'm struggling to wait till 12 weeks. Don't feel silly, I think it's very normal to feel like this.

DangerouslyBored · 16/08/2022 20:47

I think it’s important to see the heartbeat, you know what you’re dealing with then. But equally important to realise that the reassurance is temporary. Unless you are super strong / relaxed, you will probably start to feel anxious again a few days later. Until your next scan and so on and so forth. Pregnancy is just one long spell of anxiety and ‘not knowing’! Interspersed with wonderful feelings of confidence and security that it’s all going well, ie when you see the heart beat. I’m 30 weeks now and have relaxed hugely since the first trimester but it doesn’t take much to trigger my anxieties 😬

DangerouslyBored · 16/08/2022 20:48

Oh and when you start to feel the baby moving, that’s the best reassurance ever; and it’s constant, not like a scan, when the reassurance is temporary 😊

LilyDaniels · 16/08/2022 20:49

Thank you all for your reassurance!
I haven't had any symptoms other than sore boobs up until this point either, so I'm hoping I will really start to believe I'm pregnant and relax at the scan 🤞

We had one just before 9 weeks and I was really glad we did :) Agree with other commenters that reassurance can be short-lived, but definitely helped make it feel more real!

Ishacoco · 16/08/2022 22:04

I had my first at 5 weeks and saw the heartbeat. Between then and 19 weeks I had ten private scans - I felt I needed the reassurance. Now I can feel her wriggling around (25 weeks) I'm not there every other week like some paranoid lunatic. They're definitely worth it in my opinion.

zeromango · 16/08/2022 22:04

Yes it was lovely seeing the little bean with a strong heartbeat having a wiggle Smile I mean it didn't look anything like a baby at that point haha ... But it made it feel much more real!

Private scan at 8 weeks?
Keha · 16/08/2022 22:12

I think a scan at 8/9 weeks is very sensible. If everything is as expected your odds of a successful pregnancy are really good so why wait around worrying about it till the NHS scan at about 12 weeks (if you can afford it). However I would suggest trying to see it as a one off to reassure yourself it is a viable pregnancy rather than getting into a habit of wanting a scan every time you feel anxious.

QueenOfWeeds · 16/08/2022 22:17

I had an 8 week scan - saw a heartbeat and measured correctly for my dates, which was a huge relief. I found it SO difficult to wait for my 12 week scan though, and I’m the same now in the build up to my 20 week scan. It did relieve my anxiety, but only temporarily.
