Low Papp A

Hi all, I got the dreaded phone call a few days after my 12 week dating scan to say I had a low Papp A of 0.24. I’d never even heard of this up until now as DD obviously came back as ‘normal’

fast forward to now at 15 weeks, it’s still on my mind every minute of the day! Have any of you had healthy babies following this?
I also had emcs with DD and had a phone call with consultant scheduled at beginning of this pregnancy to determine which birth I’d prefer this time round. Now since finding out about low Papp a, I feel like I should have elective??

any of you ladies in similar boat ? X

I had very low PappA in my first pregnancy. Combined with high HCG gave a 1:5 risk of T21 and high risk of Edwards and Patau as well. Had an amnio and came back with no abnormalities.

Had restricted growth during pregnancy and was induced just before 37 weeks due to pre-eclampsia (could have have been caused by the low PappA or by a heart condition that I have - unknown about at the time).

The baby is now a healthy 5 year old.

Thank you, that’s very reassuring. The wait between each scan is ten times worse this time because of this. Glad to hear you have a gorgeous healthy boy afterwards.

Mine was 0.23 and my baby is now 7 months old and perfectly healthy! Far too much energy but that's a different issue 😂

I had so many miscarriages before this one that everything scared me, especially this. Luckily I had a friend who had the same in three previous pregnancies who helped settle me.

Honestly though, it got me extra growth scans in the 3rd trimester which I loved and there were no issues at all. Born the UK average weight for a baby and now the average height of a 1 year so it definitely hasn't restricted their growth or anything.

Hope everything goes well for you and congratulations!

Low PAPP-A in 1st pregnancy, healthy baby born at 37+5 it was an emergency section but only because I went into labour and he was breech. He weighed 7lbs 3 and was perfectly healthy. They didn’t do anything different for the low PAPP-A apart from I had 3 weekly growth scans and daily aspirin.

Low PAPP-A again in 2nd pregnancy, missed miscarriage discovered at 18 weeks happened around week 12.

Low PAPP-A again now in my 3rd pregnancy. So far I’m 15 weeks and everything is looking good still (had another scan today, so definitely made it further than last time!) I am having growth scans and aspirin again due to the low PAPP-A.

Thank you all. I’m more nervous this time than I was with my DD. It’s reassuring to hear most outcomes are positive 😊
move hit 15 weeks and just feel stressed because I feel like my belly has totally gone down and don’t have that ‘feeling pregnant’ sense anymore. I can only hope I’m overthinking all of this. Hormones are a nightmare!!! Thanks Ladies 💕

@Loz1093 I had low Papp-a and also a small bump until the end. My bump suddenly grew in the last few weeks and was huge, and the baby was 7lbs 4oz and perfectly healthy! I was induced a week early because of that and a few other factors, but it was completely fine in the end

I had low Papp-a, you need extra scans in the 3rd semester. Count the baby kicks then as well (lots of apps for that).

I also did the NIPT test bc this low Papp-a gives high risk for Down, apart from preeclampsia, low birth weight, pre term birth.

It’s a non invasive blood test , a genetic test, that gives you a more accurate prediction (they might miss only 1 in 10000). Back in 2018 I paid for it but now it’s available through nhs if you get high risk at the combined test. If they haven’t said anything ask them. It’s there on nhs page or gov page.

Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT)

My baby didn’t grow for the last month and bc of that I was induced at 40 weeks (horrible experience), my daughter was fine, she was born at 2nd percentile (out of 100 kids her age only 1 would have had lower weight) but within a few weeks went to 25nd percentile and she’s been following that since then, for both weight and height. I’m only 5 feet tall (1-2nd percentile for women) so it’s not a surprise.

im pregnant now with my 2nd and I have the combined test next week.
