Yes, particularly when in the car.

People do look at you a bit funny.

PussinJimmyChoos · 19/01/2008 20:40

When I was pg I found that wearing the sea sickness bands did help a lot - but only wear them for a few hours at a time or your wrists can get sore. Eat a little, but very freqently as an empty tummy can make it worse..

Do sympathise with you - 'tis awful isn't it! It does get better though! You will wake up one day and be ready to trough everything in sight!!!

onepieceoflollipop · 19/01/2008 20:40

Sorry they didn't work for me. (nor did a lot of the other so called remedies). Hope your sickness is short lived and you are soon feeling better.

moominsmummy · 19/01/2008 20:41

tried them but sickness so severe that neither they nor acupuncture made enough of a difference

resorted to wonderful wonderful tablets prescribed by my lovely GP which got me through first hideous months

hope yours improves soon

Diege · 19/01/2008 21:06

Didn't work for me I'm afraid, just got really sore wrists! I think as MOOMIN says, if the sickness is really severe they won't touch it, although others do find them invaluable [on that note MOOMIN, can I ask what tablets you were prescribed? I'll be ttc again in near future, but the ones I got from GP last time (stemetil? (sp?)didn't help, and it was the drip for me...)

FourPlusOne · 19/01/2008 21:14

Think they took the edge off it, but certainly didn't get rid of it. And yes, they do give you sore wrists if you forget you're wearing them and keep them on all day.

duvetheaven · 19/01/2008 21:37

Thanks all for those ideas and good wishes.
Its says you can wear the bands overnight but after those comments maybe I won't! I bought them earlier and have them on now. Could be a giveaway if I wore them to work .

I am 6+4 and struggling to keep anything down ; normally manage 2/3 types of food a day. . Today , it was mashed potato, baked beans and salt and vinegar twists. So much for 5 fruit and veg a day. I have a couple of stone spare luckily .

As Diege said, MOOMIN can you remember the name of those tablets?

My sister had HG and am worried I am heading in that direction. Hoping its a 12 week thing as suggested by PussinJC

I have worn them non-stop since Christmas Eve. Every time I remove them (shower, sleep) I am sick. I love them!!!

PussinJimmyChoos · 19/01/2008 21:40

Don't worry too much about the food you eat at the moment - I can remember being signed off work for two weeks as was so ill with the sickness and every day for lunch I had hash browns with baked beans...was the only thing that I could stomach and put in the oven with minimum of fuss as the smell of kitchen/food made me worse!

moominsmummy · 19/01/2008 21:56

it was stemetil that did it for me but I know it doesn't work for some - i know alot of people say zofran is fantastic but it is very expensive and you are unlikely to get a dr to prescribe it unless you have tried everything else first

just be persistent if you do need meds - I was able to play the "disabled husband and small child to care for" card which encouraged them to agree to prescribe stuff

Minkus · 19/01/2008 22:14

hello duvet

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I'm nearly 16 weeks now and I've worn my seabands for 4 weeks - only take them off for a shower. Don't find that they are unbearably tight and I am a bit of porker! Like RachAndFamous the one time I forgot to put them back on I was sick. Not sure if its the bands working or just the psychological effect but I'm scared to take them off for good in case it is the bands!

I have also been suffering from HG so sympathise with your sister- hope you manage to avoid it- can also recommend drugs if your dr will prescribe them. www.hyperemesis.org.uk has some really good general tips for morning sickness too.
Good luck x x

duvetheaven · 20/01/2008 10:46

Thanks Minkus. I will keep wearing the bands a bit longer to see about the benefits. Think they are helping but not sure if psychological yet!
Sorry to hear you are suffering with HG and thanks for the link.Hope it eases at some point .
I have cancelled all social events . I am freelance so am trying to concentrate on still turning up for work. Hmphhhhhhhh . xx

(Something which might help if you want to avoid weird looks at work and which has worked for me: follow the instructions on the pack for where to place the knobbly bit on the bands (2 fingers' width down your wrist and then in the middle between the tendons) and then instead of putting the bands on, remember where that pressure point is and just press on it during the day with your thumb if you're feeling a bit woozy at work. Otherwise resort to prescription DRUGS

Good luck, hope it's not too grim )

duvetheaven · 20/01/2008 10:49

Thanks 'Moomin' for the heads up. I will definitely go to the GP if gets any worse.

duvetheaven · 20/01/2008 10:53

Cheers JaneHH for the suggestion. That could be handy for the no-warning vomiting which seems to happen in public places ( airport, hospital corridor so far!!!).
Otherwise, DRUGS it is!!!

You're welcome

VictorianSqualor · 20/01/2008 10:57

I found they didnt work for me, but I have a pair I can post out if anyone else wants to try them.

worzsel · 20/01/2008 13:31

i've been wearing mine since 5 weeks and every time i take them off i start feeling hideous.. i've had a couple of miserable days where i've left them off to see if anythings changed but they soon go back on when i start throwing up.. I LOVE THEM i really couldnt recommend them enough i just wish i'd known abou them in my first pregnancy !

£6 in tesco.. bargain !

duvetheaven · 20/01/2008 18:20

Well, I have had my bands for 24 hrs now (but did take them off when sleeping) and its the first time in the last 5 days that I have not vomited - so it may be the bands??
I will keep wearing them!!!
Mine were £8 from Boots

( I also read on the HER foundation website that Vit k 5mg and vit c taken together could help? Will try that too)

cluckyagain · 20/01/2008 18:23

I wore mine on the 2nd and 3rd pgs and they do help to just take it 'down' a bit - not great but a def improvement. Good luckX

loobylooby · 20/01/2008 18:25

Definitely took the edge off - but made my early 2nd PG a giveaway to work colleagues since I'd worn them for the 1st. Would recommend them but not going to take it away all together IME.

BetsyBoop · 20/01/2008 23:16

definitely made me feel less sick - didn't take the sicky feeling away altogether though. They only came off when I went in the shower, I could feel the difference within minutes...

coby · 20/01/2008 23:30

I've used them for all 3 pgs and they definitely 'took it down a level' as others have said. With first pg I wondered why I felt worse in the shower until I realised that was when I took them off . You can boost the effect by pressing down harder even when you are wearing them.

I also used Vit B6 and stemetil. Nothing cured it but I took regardless just in case it was helping a bit which I think they did. Some people swear by fizzy cola bottles you know. I found extra strong polo mints helped duting those unexpected moments when everything was about to go into reverse! Easy to carry around too.

debinaustria · 21/01/2008 06:24

I tried them but found that they made me dizzy instead

duvetheaven · 21/01/2008 19:58

Had another day without throwing up (TMI) so think it may be the bands!
Thanks for the other tips. I will get the fizzy cola bottles and extra strong polo mints too
Thought I was going to have to give up work last week!!
