Hello -

ive been prescribed aspirin to take from 12 weeks daily to delivery. I’m very petite so no risk factor from weight point of view but I had pre eclampsia in my previous pregnancy 11 years ago. Has anyone else taken it? I know it’s to help the baby and myself so it’s beneficial but I feel so reluctant to take a medication daily. Obviously I will do but it doesn’t sit well with me x

Hey, I’ve been taking 150mg soluble aspirin since 12 weeks to help prevent pre-eclampsia. Im 22+2 now and all is fine, had multiple scans including a Doppler scan at 21wks to check the blood flow to the placenta and all is fine.

I definitely understand the reluctance to take medication daily but it’s definitely beneficial to the pregnancy if you’ve been prescribed it 😊

I take it too. It’s a very small dose and the benefits outweigh the risks. It can also help baby be marginally bigger so if they are born earlier they have a better standing

I did but it was an ICSI pregnancy so I toook loads of drugs to support the pregnancy- I found it reassuring.

ReeseWitherfork · 04/08/2022 22:18

I did. Just don’t take it before bed. I was because it interfered with my other tablets (that needed taking in the morning) and didn’t realise for far too long that taking it without food was the cause of my horrendous overnight heartburn.

Why don’t you want to take medication daily?

BoneWithTheWind · 04/08/2022 22:23

I had it prescribed as well - due to my history of small babies (5lb 5oz and 5lb 11oz). I took it all the way through until delivery and my 3rd DS was born at 6lb 15oz - despite me putting the least weight in this pregnancy... All scans reassuring, no tailing off of the growth.. I'll never know for sure that it's the aspirin that did it but I'm glad I took it :-)

Im a nurse but I’m surprisingly against medication for myself if I can help it 😂 I prefer natural all the way as it’s better for body systems. However needs must I guess currently on cyclizine too which I was sooo dreading taking but I had to as was not able to eat so I’ll deffo be taking the aspirin as dont want pre eclampsia it’s just always a worry isn’t it when you have a little growing person in there x

Previous pre-eclampsia is still a risk, even if it was so long ago. I took it in both my pregnancies. The first because I had the risk of pre-eclampsia. The second because I had pre-eclampsia with the first. I still got pre-eclampsia again, but it was even milder than the first time, which I put down to taking aspirin religiously throughout. Besides, it's such a small dose. Half a regular tablet. Just take it alongside your vitamin D.

I had an ivf pregnancy and it was standard to take it all the way through at my clinic so I did. I am generally anti unnecessary drugs and went to great lengths to have low dose and natural ivf rather than the standard version but aspirin appears to have benefits for next to no risk so I happily took it.

I took 75 mg daily from 14 weeks to 36 weeks due to previous preterm birth. No idea if it did anything but I'm now at term!

I understand your reluctance as I also like to minimise drugs but it's a very safe medication xx

Pizzaandsushi · 14/08/2022 15:24

I had never taken aspirin before in my life before pregnancy and then took 150 mg every day until birth from week 12 due to family history of preeclampsia.
I was nervous too as I rarely take painkillers, let alone something I’ve never had before and every day!
I was absolutely fine. Pregnancy was perfectly healthy. Baby born the exact say I suspected and is now a very alert 5.5 month old!

I was prescribed it and it made me violently sick. GP introduced omepasole and I tried it again and same happened.

Spoke to Obgyn and she said while it can help, better not to take if you can't tolerate it.

I've been taking it from 12 weeks as I had PIH in my first pregnancy...my bp has been much more stable at each check up but I've just been put on labetalol at 37 weeks as it's crept up slightly too high! So it hasn't prevented the high bp with me but it definitely helped up to now. My bp last time was all over the place every time it was tested!

welshpolarbear · 15/08/2022 21:15

I had to take it during my 2nd pregnancy after a miscarriage at 20 weeks.

It was to thin the blood as the blood vessels in the cord of first baby were thin so she didn't have enough oxygen to survive.

I'd definitely take it if they think you need it.
