BFP - now what?!

Hi ladies

I've just got my BFP - roughly 4 weeks. Early days and keeping everything crossed that it all goes okay... not really sure when to phone the doctor etc? I'm in Scotland and the NHS website says to phone asap so routine blood tests can be carried out. When did you all phone?

Also, any recommendations for good supplements etc to be taking?

Congratulations! It's quite different depending where you live, even neighbouring trusts have different policies.

For me I filled out the self referral form online at around 6 weeks, and had my booking in appointment at 11 weeks.

Start taking folic acid if you haven't already, if you have a high BMI take double the normal amount. For multivitamins people find they react better to different ones, some made me feel really nauseous, like the pregnacare ones. So maybe don't buy a lot all in one go in case you don't get on with them!

Congratulations!
I'm also in Scotland am 5 weeks today and have just phoned to make my booking appointment yesterday, they booked my 12 week scan in at the same time. If you have a look on the nhs website for your area you should find a number for maternity services and they'll do it all over the phone for you.

As for supplements I found supermarket own brands ones easiest to stomach last pregnancy so have started taking them again, I tried pregnacare but they made me feel ill.

Congratulations.

I was exactly the same last April...I phoned my GP - spoke to the receptionist and said I've no idea what to do! They referred me to the midwives (different areas are different)...I'd phone your GP and they will tell you what to do.

Congratulations! I originally took the seven seas ones but changed to pregnacare and took them at night as I found they sometimes gave me a sore stomach if taken in the morning.

Im in Scotland too, was pregnant last year and considering another now. BEST THING EVER! I was like you and thought I better tell someone about this like right now, is there a hotline you phone or what? Someone needs to know! Surely someone will come out and check that I definitely am! Turns out, nah 😂

I held off for 2 weeks, knew when I was like 2 seconds pregnant. So I waited til 6 weeks because I wanted to be so sure I really really was. Then I phoned and due to covid they were doing the booking appointments over the phone so she booked in when she was going to phone for that (8 weeks) and a few days after that I went in for the blood test. It was literally just a blood test and nothing else, did find it weird we couldn’t have just done the booking chat when I saw her in person anyway 🙄 The blood test was mainly for blood group I think because of course I’m rhesus negative so needed the anti D jag when I was pregnant and after giving birth, so keep your fingers crossed you’re not one of the lucky ones qualifying for that 😅

the booking in appointment basically puts you on the system and a letter was then sent out with my scan appointment at 12 weeks. In my area they use badger notes so it’s all done on an app. It’s not great really as there’s very little information on it but not sure if all of Scotland are the same. Just chill, enjoy having this little secret that the world doesn’t know about yet for another few days ☺️ Congrats again

Also didn’t want to phone up my local GP receptionist and have to tell Ashley from my school’s mum that I was pregnant so did all the searching online to find the number to phone to tell them at the hospital directly 😂 I remember my horror at the woman answering the phone being a midwife. Like, a real life midwife who delivers babies and I need to speak to her because I’m having an actual baby 🙈

@faithtrustandpixiedust eeeeek we are close, I've just entered into my app and I'll be 5 weeks on Saturday!!

Thank you all so much for your help and advice ladies, I can't believe it. We had been trying since January so was beginning to get a bit down about it all. I know it's very early days but trying to remain positive that it'll go well!

Xx

@Goodnewsday thankfully I don't know anyone at my GP practice but my husband is registered at the practice his mum works at and we were advised to her his sperm checked in the coming months if we didn't fall pregnant so I think he's more relieved than anything that he now doesn't have to hand that sample in to his mum 🤣🤣

@NiceToChat88 haha that would have been an experience 🤣🤣

Does anyone know if the GP can do the blood tests for Hep B etc early on? I have a severe phobia of getting my bloods drawn and always make myself sick with worry knowing it's coming, I really don't want to wait until my first midwife appointment as I'll just make myself sick in the mean time! Dramatic I know, but it's a fear I've always had and unfortunately can't shake it 🤣 the poor nurse hates seeing my name on her list for bloods!!

I'm the same, but the midwives were so lovely about it. The first blood test it took about 20mins (just to find a vein - they were just feeling, no needles thankfully)...the last one, I'd got the midwife so stressed with my stress that she needed the windows open to cool down afterwards.

The first midwives who took their time found a good vein, told me where it was for future and used a very fine needle - my juicy vein is in my wrist (for me that is so much less traumatic than my arm believe it or not).

When giving birth in had another needle (if you have sn epidural they stick one in your hand incase you need a drip - I'm glad I knew this fact in advance) - the drip needle - I was so spaced out (intentionally) on gas and air that I didn't notice and I was so desperate for the epidural!
