Telling siblings gender

We have found out DC3's gender.
Looking for ideas on how to tell DS1 and DS2. Aged 10 and 7.

When my brother was born me and my sister were 5 and 7, our parents didn't tell us until he was born. I guess at 10 a child might notice you buying boy or girl things for the baby though

FrownedUpon · 02/08/2022 12:57

Umm just say, “you’re getting a brother/sister.” I don’t get the issue.

SweetPeaPods · 02/08/2022 13:07

I don't want to spend a fortune on something extravagant but wanted to make it special if possible. Something they could remember. Not quite a gender reveal party but something the boys could do to find out.

I just got them a little balloon to burst with pink confetti. They thought it was fun.

Violettaa · 02/08/2022 13:10

I'd worry that this would set them up for disappointment. If you make a big thing of it, there's a lot of pressure on them to react in the 'right' way even if it's not what they were expecting / hoping for.

why not just TELL them...honestly why does everything have to be memorable?

I blame Instagram

Buy some cupcakes, some buttercream icing if you don’t want to make your own. Cut a circle out of each cupcake and put white icing and maybe some rainbow sprinkles on all but one. Place the top back on. Dye the icing the relevant colour and then fill the last one with pink/blue icing. Get the children to bite into the cupcakes to reveal the centre. All eat cake.

Just tell them the sex. "you have a new brother/sister on the way".

Or don't tell them at all - let it be a surprise for them with the added advantage of less stereotyped expectations in place on day 1.

BiscoffSundae · 02/08/2022 13:12

I think this is cute actually but just be warned my son cried when he found out DC4 was a girl so it might backfire 😬 unless you are certain they will be excited?

astersugar · 02/08/2022 13:15

We told our son age 4 that the doctors thought the new baby was a girl and that we would know for sure when the baby was born. We gave him a little Lego set "from the baby" and that was it. He was more interested in that than anything else, although he is a lovely big brother.

Toosadtocomprehend · 02/08/2022 13:18

Tell them after baby is born. Any disappointment will disappear in seconds once they can meet the baby!

They might not place as much importance ion this memory as you wish.

Soonberaining · 02/08/2022 13:20

I just told my much older two that they were having a baby sister. They have never forgotten it as it was a big moment. They didn't need cakes or balloons to make it memorable.

notangelinajolie · 02/08/2022 13:21

Just tell them.

SuperPets · 02/08/2022 13:21

Sex not gender. Just tell them. What difference does it make?

undecided112 · 02/08/2022 13:21

Maybe get a blue and a pink bear and tell them to guess which one - then they get to keep a bear each after or something along those lines.

RainbowsMoonbeams · 02/08/2022 13:26

We just told them when we showed the scan photo - you are having a baby brother.

Toyed with getting a blue ‘brother’ baby grow to go with it, but just kept it simple in the end.

MsSquiz · 02/08/2022 13:49

My SIL did a mini reveal for us after a private scan with dd2 for me, DH, DD1 and my niece and nephews.

She bought both blue and pink balloons, then filled a box the children had decorated with the pink balloons for us to open.
The kids loved it and it wasn't expensive to do

YouBoggleMyMind · 02/08/2022 13:57

We just told our 4 year DS that he was getting a baby sister.
