Hi - due on Friday with second baby (dd 16 months) and having horrible couple of weeks. Only finished work last Friday to be struck down with flu. Left with chest infection which I can't shift. Also, have chronic indigestion and a raging thirst which I can't get rid of. No diabetes or anything (was at antenatal clinic on Thurs) but all I can think about is what I'm going to drink next. Only managing to sleep for 2 or 3 hours at a time which is not helping mood or energy levels and am just so grumpy all the time which is not like me - really! I've never been so fed up and although logically I know the end is in sight, I really don't believe it. Any words of support? Anyone else have the mad thirst before going into labour?!!

Jennymac you have my sympathy, late pg is enough to cope with without illness too! What indigestion remedies`do you have and how are you managing the thirst ie water, juice, tea in sips or gulps? You may be dehydrated as well as tired which doesnt help the mood.
If I were in your situation I would try anything comforting ie keep warm, have my favourite drinks to hand, put trashy DVD/telly on to distract. Hope you feel better soon. XXX

You have my full sympathy too. I am 38+3 and have just had a succession of coughs and colds for the last few weeks. Was looking forward to a rest last week when ds got chicken pox which meant he couldn't go to nursery. Am not sleeping either (have been awake since 3.30am)... all in all, it's a bit pants!!

i couldn't shift my chest infection when was about 38 weeks and it was making me cough so hard that my pelvic floor couldn't take it.

was quite thirsty when i had my chect infection - and developed some sort of ezcema too.

so got some antibiotics from dr, and cleared up in cough in less than the week (but make sure you complete the course).

sleep in naps if you can, think of it as prep for when baby comes.

now î'm overdue!!

but feeling your pain, and sending you positive vibes!!

aww i really feel for you. I have asthma so prone to chest pain when i pick up a virus/cold.
Steer clear of greasy or sugary food ( not suggesting you eat too much of it), have a bottle of water and just keep sipping, i think thats better than guzzling a glass full and then feeling bloated and still thirsty.

LOVEMYMUM · 19/01/2008 16:22

Hi Jenny - oh dear!!

I hope you feel better soon.

rozzyraspberry · 19/01/2008 21:11

Have you seen your gp? They might be able to give you something to help - the last thing you need is to be feeling rubbish when you go into labour.

Hope you feel better soon and good luck with everything!

Thanks everyone - you are all stars! Have been on antibiotics since Monday and they have helped with the chest pain and infection side of things but still coughing lots. The doc says rest is the only thing which will help but there is stuff I want to do to get ready for new arrival! Still, feeling a bit better today. Taking gaviscon for indigestion (is there anything more foul tasting?!) and probably drinking all the wrong things - loads of water, still and fizzy but also diluting juice, fruit juice and the occasional soft drink. I've had a great pregnancy up to now so shouldn't complain but why do the last couple of weeks seem neverending?

jennymac - hire yourself some comedy DVDs, (sit on a towel ) grab some chocolate and some tea and if you can't sleep, don't worry about it, just laugh and forget about how little sleep you are getting and how horrid you are feeling.

Gaviscon tastes like minty sperm IMHO . I prefer tic-tacs (they work just as well for me!)

The end is nigh. Hang in there for when the party starts!

You have antibiotics?!! My GP won't give me any and I am trying to shift this cough using menthol eucalyptus. Funnily enough, it's not working!! C-section wound with a cough is NOT going to be funny!!
