Hi I've read a load of posts on here and am trying not to Google but just need a vent and hopefully a few encouraging words I think.
I am 28 weeks pregnant and had a scan yesterday to check low lying placenta. The scan took ages and then the lady said at the end all was fine but one thing to note was more amniotic fluid than last time. I asked what that meant and if was a problem or good or bad..she wouldn't say anything just it was an observation and I may want to chat to the midwife. I've since looked at the noted and see it's high at 29.9cm and the work polyhydramnios in the notes. So I emailed my midwife team and they've now said I've been referred to a fetal medicine department and should have an appointment in 2 weeks - and to go tomorrow to hospital for an urgent GD test.
Feeling really.spun out by the word urgent and the lack of explanation on what's going on and the referral etc has anyone got any advise even if it's just on how to try and stay calm? I just want to talk to someone about it and understand a bit more...the hospital tomorrow will just be a test no appointment or chat. Feeling very anxious. Midwife department never pick up the phone:-(

I had polyhydramnios in my first pregnancy and found the same thing. Very little information, very little concern from some but yet others insisting on induction and regular monitoring. I really felt like should I be worried or not!

Positives wise, it's nice to get the extra scans, and it didn't really affect too much with the pregnancy until labour. My daughter came out perfect, there's usually not a cause and I didn't have GD.

Hopefully you'll get a bit more support at your next appointment!

I have it. My afi was 26.6cm yesterday at 37 weeks. I’ve also been diagnosed with GD after passing the GTT but 2 weeks of fingers pricking at home, although not convinced I have it as I can most things (and haven’t tried others that are supposed to be bad).

Fetal medicine will check baby’s stomach, kidneys and bladder. GD is a really common cause of polyhydramnios.

Thanks guys I've got my GD test today and then a scan in the specialist department in 2 weeks. I had a chat with the midwife too and feel a bit better that it's being looked into rather than just being told there was something up and not really anything more...oh and don't Google...
Mixed messages! Hopefully get the GD result today otherwise I'm going to be worrying all wkdn. I mean I will be anyway! If it's positive I'll be thrown and if it's negative I'll be wondering what's causing it - can't win! Think I'd had a pretty stress free T2 and forgot how stressful and all consuming things can be once you have a pregnancy concern. Thanks for your kind comments x

I had it with my second. I had GD test (fine) and she went off to SCBU after birth to check her swallow reflex (took minutes) but otherwise all fine. Apart from drenching the poor midwife when she popped my waters it was a very uneventful birth.

It just means extra fluid around baby,
You will be now placed in the “higher risk category” for pregnancy if you weren’t already.

the major concern is “cord prolapse” but it’s low risk so don’t panic. but it does need to be monitored. It caused me little issue other than not being allowed have a water birth and being induced a little earlier.

Thanks so much for the replies. Just trying to calm the mental brain now. My grandmother always says how they never had scans in her day and babies were fine...I'm def glad to have scans even if it sometimes does open the gates of more questions (and worries).
I just keep feeling so guilty for every ice cream I've eaten and not doing enough exercise...having a toddler and working full time is no excuse.
