I’m 24 weeks pregnant today, and neither of us have a very good idea of what we’d like to call out baby boy due November! It feels like such a big responsibility, his surname begins with a P and I’m not a big fan of the current trending names like Theo, Freddie and Leo

does anyone mind sharing their baby boy names to give us some inspiration? 16 weeks to go and thoroughly unprepared!

It has to be Shakespeare or the Bible for me!

Poor taste joke warning: couldn't you just call him "baby"?

But seriously, there's no rush. Neither DH or I could think of names for any of our 3 DC before they arrived, it was just like a mental block. We found it easier when we met them.

You have 6 weeks after the birth to register (ie to decide a name). If people ask just be honest and say you haven't decided. I'd also recommend "trying out" any name just you and dh for a couple of days before telling anyone else. That way you can be sure you're happy.

i'm pretty geeky so made an excel spreadsheet of possible names downloaded from here and then deleted all the ones I didn't like which left a reasonable number to chose from. I also deleted anything in the top-50 to reduce the chances of having 3 other kids with the same name in primary school

It's so bloody difficult isn't it? When we first fell pregnant we heard someone shout the name Charlotte and absolutely loved it. That was her name. Until I panicked and hit 7 months and thought we needed a back up name. Went onto Google and the back up name became her actual name. You'll just hear a name and fall in love with it!

weve been calling him baby Keith which has really grown on me but understandably my partner doesn’t want it to stick around permanently haha! It’s just so difficult

I love names so I had ready made lists.

Often I'm inspired by character names in fiction (I mean normal names, I don't mean like Danaerys or Khaleesi). I also look at :

  • Names from specific times in history (for instance medieval names)

  • Names from other countries (for instance, scandinavian names)

  • Names with specific meanings

And generally when I see a name I like I just write it down and when the list is longer I read it again. Names I prefer usually jump out to me.

I'm not giving exemples as I'm not british and names I like probably won't work for you !

I’m finding choosing a name really hard too. We spent a long time coming up with a shortlist — months of discussion and research — and now none of those names feel right.

I’m due in six weeks and no single name is standing out. I am counting on feeling differently when we see the baby, otherwise I’m worried we’ll end up regretting our name choice!

ChangeHtotheP · 25/07/2022 15:48

@GeorgiaP88 We’ve been referring to ours as Keith as well! Had to stop though as worried it would stick and we’d have a baby that we kept calling Keith when they were here. Would probably be the only one in the class though. 😄 We have girls names but no boys names. It’s so hard, I think name can determine who they become.

Same here 😆 also due in November and having a boy. We are struggling so much to agree on a name! We have one name that we think is ok, I have 2 which I like and my husband doesn't and he has one which I don't like. To make it more complicated, we are a bilingual family so need a name that is ok in english and my mother tongue. I hear names and they are ok, it's not like I think they're not nice names but they just don't do anything for me! 😬
