Heartbroken and confused, advice needed

We found out last week Tuesday that DH and I were expecting baby no 5. I must add that due to medical issues I was waiting for a coil to be fitted in theatre at UCLH hospital as my last was taken out for a biopsy, so I took the morning after pill within 8 hrs but it did not work in my case.

Today (Sunday) I went to my GP out of hours and she immediately said okay I will organise a TOP (I had to ask what that was) it had taken us 8 years to conceive baby no 3 with many heartbreaks in between so we were not considering terminating at all.

She took one look at me and said your husband will have 5 children but they wont have a mother. Due to covid and the vaccine I had my body has suffered significantly.

Has anyone else who was hospitalised during covid / after their vaccine gone on to have a baby? My GP also has 4 kids with a history of fertility issues which we have bonded over. However I suppose I just want hope before I need to make the dreaded visit to lose our little one. It wasn't planned but still wanted. I never thought I would find myself in such a situation and my heart feels like it is being torn out and the world is just grey.

It sounds like you need a much more comprehensive assessment of your health by a specialist before making such a significant decision! Unless there’s a really clear cut health risk I’m shocked thst your GP took that approach!

I imagine I will take too much time to go via nhs. Can you go to relevant consultants privately to get an expert opinion on the risk to your life and health??

I would definitely be assessed by a consultant.

Your GP obviously knows far more about your medical history, and may be is giving this advice based wholly well-founded and clear evidence.

But I think you need to exhaust every avenue before making a decision of this magnitude. GPs are generalists. You need to see advice from specialist/s

I'm confused - did you have a reaction to the covid vaccine? Or are you having long lasting effects after having covid?

Flutterbybudget · 24/07/2022 22:07

I’d definitely be wanting a second opinion on this. I’m not aware that “just” having been hospitalised with Covid signified sufficient damage to terminate a pregnancy with no other complications. Obviously your GP knows more about your medical history than we do, from your OP, but please make sure that you are given all the information needed to make an informed decision that you can live with, whatever that might be.
I wish you the best of luck OP, and a long, happy life with your children x

A clump of cells isn't worth leaving 4 kids without a mother for.
If you want another baby why not adopt? Your GP obviously cares about you and knows this will be dangerous.
