Hi everyone,

New to this so not 100% sure how to use this but Google does not seem to be providing any answers.

I found out I was pregnant early this week and I am only very early around 4 weeks. When squeezing my breath a small amount of milk has come out which I was shocked about as I am so early on! I spoke to my friend who is a midwife and she told me it is very rare for that to happen so early on and not to try do it again as it can cause the uterus to contract but I was just wondering if this has happened to anybody else or whether it is something I should worry about?

I have been tracking my cycles using natural cycles since last September so don’t think it is possible for me to be further along than I expected.

Thank you in advance! X

Why are you squeezing your breasts at all?

Midwives generally know very little about breast health and/or breastfeeding in my experience - 3bf children and a few midwife friends.

Don't worry about it, it can be normal. I could squeeze drops of colostrum from very early in all 3 in pregnancies. Your uterus won't contract. Your midwife friend is probably confusing herself with the fact that bf after birth encourages the utérus to contract down. Also nipple stimulation in late pregnancy (37+ weeks) can help bring on labour through the production of high levels of oxytocin.

You could do many women a favour and ask her to find a source for what she's told you - ask where she read it and can she tell you a bit more about breasts/milk during pregnancy. Then she'll be less likely to needlessly worry other women in future.
