Breathlessness in first trimester?

Hey everyone. I am 9 weeks pregnant today and experiencing breathlessness, it is quite disconcerting. I've figured out today that it is worse after eating a proper meal.

I am going to get it checked, but just wondered what others would do? I've text my midwife but she doesn't work weekends. I am leaning towards just calling the doctor's Monday, but keep making myself anxious over whether it is something that needs tending to sooner. Unsure if I should make an out of hours apt, or if I'm being dramatic.

I had covid at 6-7 weeks, so that may be playing a role.

I had similar but a bit later on. It turned out to be mainly due to ectopic heart beats. Does your pulse feel normal? Definitely worth getting checked out if you're worried.

It can be a sign of anemia, which is worth getting checked.

I had this with all of my pregnancies, but it became progressively worse each time. By the end of all of them, I seriously started to wonder if I was going to die through lack of oxygen as I just couldn't take anything resembling a deep breath. But it wasn't remotely pathological - it was just one of the joyous side effects of being pregnant (I hated being pregnant, btw). It was always even worse after eating, so little and often is better than 'proper' meals.

I had this. Apparently its very common ans it's because the blood flow is going to the baby. It eases up in 2nd trimester then, as your organs all get squeezed, can come back in 3rd!! Totally normal.

Breathlessness was one of my first symptoms! It did ease off eventually, probably after about twelve weeks or so?

Normal. I had this both pregnancies, now 5 months pregnant, and with a healthy toddler. The progesterone sends all sorts of signals to get you to breathe more deeply etc to triple check you have enough oxygen. Rest assured too that if ever you WERE for some reason low on oxygen, your body would funnel what you have to the baby, so however breathless you are, baby will be fine :)

Probably sensible to double check with midwife about anemia, but don't worry unduly.

I can't thank you all enough for your kind replies. You've really put my mind at ease! This is my 7th pregnancy (3 DC) and I've never ever experienced this until the third trimester! I'll try to worry less. My bloods were taken at my booking apt last week so if anemic that will flag up. :)

I was so breathless even when talking a lot! I remember having to deliver training for a new joiner at work and I was panting away Grin
