Big baby worries

I’m just coming up to 34 weeks - went for a growth scan yesterday and baby is measuring off the chart big for abdomen and 97th for head size.

Having another scan at 38 weeks, and the obstetrician says if still off the charts they will recommend CS, but if around 97th will just recommend inducing on due date.

I know there can be a margin of error in these things, but can’t help but worry. Would prefer a vaginal birth but he said it may end up in emergency CS if baby still measuring so big.

Also been referred for a second GD test (last one was 5 weeks ago).

Anyone else going/gone through this and have any advice?

I'm 37 weeks and my baby jumped from the 50th to 80th percentile within about 2 weeks (I think 28-30 weeks). She's now on the 95th for head and tummy and they're predicting she'll be around 9lb.
I'm booked in for a section on 8th August (this is elective though and been in place the whole pregnancy). I was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I guess I can't help about her size because she's not here yet, but my own obstetrician said growth scans are known for being not the most accurate. But if I can help in any way let me know 😊

Yes, they thought my baby was going to be enormous so they induced me (he was 8lb 7 in the end lol). It was a faff. Not terrible or dangerous or anything, but took days and in the end had to have a c-section anyway. Pregnant again now and going straight to c-section, wish I had the first time. For me, having a vaginal birth wasn't important and I had no emotion vested in wanting it to be "natural", although I know this is very personal and not everyone feels this way. C-section seems the most straight forward way of going from "being pregnant" to "baby safely delivered", if there are issues with size of baby or something else.

Whatever happens and whatever you decide, you will end up with your gorgeous baby in your arms and how they got there won't matter :)

Mine were over 9 & 10lb and a C-section was never mentioned (I was 5ft 4 & a size 8), the only reason I got induced with dc3 - 10lb 9, was because I begged due to gallbladder pain & spd, even then they refuse until it’s 40 weeks.

try not to panic, our bodies are pretty amazing!

How did it go in the end? I’m in the same boat as you were!

Hi, in the end they advised not going past due date so had to choose between CS and induction. Chose CS which was nerve wracking but went smoothly.

Baby’s weight was less than predicted though - only 8lb3oz. However she is very tall (99th percentile) so I wonder if that affected weight prediction.

I probably would have been ok with a vaginal birth in hindsight, but just had to make the best decision with the information I had at the time. Don’t regret my decision at all - certainly one of the better birth experiences in my NCT group.

Best of luck.
