Heavily pregnant, positive for covid

Hi there, just wondering if anyone has been in a similar position and has any advice?

36 weeks pregnant, tested positive this morning. Cough, nausea and a bit of a temp, but nothing paracetamol and rest can't handle. I am triple jabbed.

I texted my midwife this morning just to check if there's any precautions I need to take as it's so late in my pregnancy, but no reply. I've been asleep most of the day and only just realised it's now the weekend so won't be able to contact GP.

I don't need to ring triage do I? Torn between not making a fuss and being very anxious about my baby. My view may be a bit skewed due to a colleague loosing her baby whilst suffering from covid.

Thank you!

I had covid at 26-27 weeks. My midwife said I should treat it like I was ill with anything else- keep monitoring baby’s movements, stay hydrated and keep my temperature down. She also said that they had never had so many women notifying them that they had covid.

I ended up ringing triage when I thought baby’s movements had changed (with hindsight I think I just felt so awful that I was missing baby’s movements). They were very understanding- managed to get baby moving with a sweet cold drink and lying on my left side. They said that if I was still worried I could come in for them to check the heartbeat.

So the point of my post is that you and baby will in all likelihood be fine, but if you are worried ring triage. You won’t be the only one.

Hiya
hope your feeling ok? I tested positive at 38 weeks, luckily was 11 days before my c-section date so they were happy to go ahead with it on planned day as was over 10 days positive. If you ring the hospital where you are planning on giving birth they will put you on their virtual Covid ward and you’ll most likely be give injections you have to give yourself to stop blood clots. Then they just ring you every couple of days to check you are ok? (That’s what my hospital did anyway). I was fine though, barely any symptoms and hadn’t had any jabs. Is good for them to keep an eye on you though if you are concerned. Hope you feel better soon (this was only 3 months ago so doubt it’s changed much in the way they deal with it) xxx

Thank you both 😊 that's exactly what I needed to hear. Sorry to hear you've both had covid whilst pregnant! An extra worry we could do without isn't it.

Will keep managing at home but if I'm no better by tomorrow might ring triage re blood clot injection, I've had two days of just lying about the house which probably isn't ideal.

Feeling worse than yesterday but baby is still wriggling away nicely so that's reassuring. Hopefully I'll be on the up by tomorrow 🤞

I’m a midwife. You do need to ring your local maternity triage and inform them, so they can give you the correct advice and also may prescribe a short course of blood thinners. Also please seek medical advice from 111/999/A&E if you have any worsening respiratory symptoms.

Thank you, I did ring off the back of your message. Low risk for blood clots so no meds required but they are posting me out an at home pulse ox. Thank you!

I'm currently 34 weeks with Covid (second time - had it at 14 weeks as well, so annoying!) Feels like a horrendous cold and just utterly miserable. My midwife told me to keep sugar levels up with fruit juice and ice lollies - ice lollies really help with easing the throat. Keep topped up on paracetamol and rest and hopefully it passes soon!

Also I've learnt recently that even if you have the slightest niggle...just phone triage, in my experience they always have the time for it and if it puts you at ease then it was worth it.

Oh poor you to get it twice! Thank you for the advice. Hope you start feeling better soon x

Same situation as you - 36 weeks and covid positive. I'm actually on day 10/11 now since symptoms began but still testing faintly positive... Boo!

Personally I haven't done anything special. I had very mild symptoms so didn't feel the need to call anyone and basically just treated it like a cold except obviously for isolating. I did have to ring the antenatal clinic this morning though and tell them as I was supposed to have a growth scan this afternoon :(

Hope it doesn't last long for you xx

Sorry to hear you're suffering too! I'm on day 4 since symptoms started. I started off this morning thinking I was feeling better but have been too drained to leave the sofa all afternoon 😴

So frustrating having to cancel appointments isn't it! I've had to cancel a midwife appointment and consultant appointment this week.

Hope it doesn't last too much longer for you x
