10 weeks pregnant and constant left groin pain

Hi everyone, I am about 10 weeks pregnant and since last week I am experiencing a strong pain in my left groin area extending to my inner thigh which is worse when I walk long, bend, sit and stand. It keeps me from any normal functioning. I raised this concern with my MW and I had an early scan appointment to check for EP and the scan turned out to be all fine! But still with pain and no clear diagnosis. I thought it could be Round Ligament pain but seems that the pain with RLP is not constant and that I am a bit early in the timeline for it. I am also worried if this will continue all through pregnancy. I am thinking if I have to sought opinion from an Orthopedist. Has anyone here had experienced such pain from this early on in their pregnancy?

Disregarding the pregnancy, have you felt the area to see if there is a lump? It sounds as if it could be an inguinal hernia that needs urgent attention

I'm 29 weeks and have had this, at first I thought I'd pulled a muscle in my groin but now I'm suspecting it could be pelvic girdle pain. It is possible to have it from quite early on - Google it and see if your symptoms line up and then get back onto your midwife or GP for some physiotherapy.

Congrats on the pregnancy!

@mdh2020 I don't have any such lumps in the area. Hoping it's not an inguinal hernia. But I will explore more on this condition as well. Thank you!

I had this, but in both the left and right sides from week 10 through to about week 20. It was PGP. I had a bit of a break, but am week 34 now and it'a come back with a vengence in the last 2 weeks. Definitely mention it to your midwife, and maybe see if you can get a physio appointment?

I had this but it started after an ectopic pregnancy. It was really bad until about week 14 of my subsequent successful pregnancy, and then miraculously disappeared. It occasionally comes back in a very dull way when my body is going through a change like getting my period back after breast feeding. But mostly it's completely gone. I have absolutely no idea what causes it. I had a few scans and examinations and no one could tell me. The best guess I have is a trapped nerve. I'm so glad it's gone now though, it was very annoying! Hope the same is true for you

@bogoblin Thank you! From which week did you start having the symptoms? Yes, sadly my symptoms feel more like Pelvic Girdle pain but concentrated on one side. I will try to book an appointment with a physiotherapist. Hope it doesn't last for the whole term 😕

@Radrose@mdh2020 Sorry that you had to go through this too but glad to know that it can start early in pregnancy! A bit of an update: I had a visit to my GP doctor which proved to be quite unhelpful again! But I insisted her to give me a physiotherapist referral which she was not ready to. Visited physiotherapist who immediately related my symptoms to PGP/SPD and gave me some exercises. Now figuring out ways to manage the pain and I feel that its going to be a long painful journey!

I can definitely recommend swimming as one way to help with the pain. I've found it to be a lifeline when I've had a particularly bad day. If I can get to the pool in the evening, it helps take the weight off and makes it easier to sleep that night. I also worked out what my step limit was a day in terms of pain. Up to 5,000 steps was manageable (this has since dropped to about 4,000).

Hopefully you'll have a bit of a reprieve in the 2nd trimester when baby moves out of your pelvis a bit. I noticed the pain ease when that happened. 36 weeks now though, and I'm done 😂 getting in and out of the car takes about 10 minutes.

I had this when I was at the back end of pregnacy. I think it was both sides and it felt like my groin was going to give way.

Awful pain worse than the actual labour.
