Does anyones baby NOT have a pattern ?

I'm 28+4 and been in the last 3 weeks every week with reduced movements. Had a growth scan and a Doppler and liquid scan. Baby was weighing 2.8lbs at 27 weeks and on the 90th centile. They said all is well.

But I'm driving myself mad trying to find her pattern. I don't think she has one... it's like she will do some pretty predictable movements around abouts the same times each day for like a week, then I will have a really quiet day or two (hence going into hospital) and then she starts up again but with a completely new routine !
Could this be her pattern ?
Could patterns be spread over a few days rather than a 24 hour period ? So could a pattern be a few quiet days then a few active days ? I don't want to keep going to the hospital if this is just what she does...

I asked my midwife who said this pattern thing causes stress and to just think to myself at the end of the day "am I happy and reassured with todays movements" and if it's a no tonpick up the phone.

My baby has never moved at the same time every day, i was always told to do what your midwife has said, and look at the day as a whole

I never had a ‘pattern’. It’s a baby in the womb, it doesn’t have a daily routine. Wouldn’t that be easy if newborns came out with a predictable pattern of sleeping and waking! As long as you don’t go too long without movement I wouldn’t worry.

2mumlife · 22/07/2022 10:08

I don't feel much of a pattern, and some days there are more movements than others. I go with basically what your midwife is saying - am I happy I've felt baby move and am I concerned? I'm 33 weeks and haven't ever got to the point of feeling like I need to be checked for movements (but I'm also having extra growth scans). The few times I've felt like movements have been quieter I try to make some time to actively 'tune in' to movements and that's always given me enough reassurance

Merryclaire · 22/07/2022 10:54

I have a similar ‘pattern’ - plenty of movement for a few days, then hardly anything for a day or two. It’s really worrying when it happens and I’ve been in for monitoring four times now.

Pretty sure mine doesn't have a pattern as such and I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow. I just try pay attention to feel for when it is moving and make a mental note when I think it's been a bit too long.

Dyra · 22/07/2022 14:41

Neither of mine had a pattern. But then I was never worried about frequency of movements either. Like PP, I just tried to pay attention to when they were moving, and worked out when it last was before then. If I felt it had been a while I gave them a poke and was usually rewarded with a wriggle. Only once did the poke not work. But then the can of cold Coke I chugged did.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 22/07/2022 15:02

DS never had a pattern. My consultant told me not to do kick counts and instead, like PPs, to look at the day as a whole.

Also, he didn't really kick after about 30 weeks, just stretched and swirled about.

kisaki333 · 22/07/2022 15:09

Mine was the same. No pattern whatsoever and to make it worse, I had an anterior placenta so I could barely feel anything.

Also the usual tricks of drinking something sweet or cold never ever worked for mem

Due to this, we ended up in the hospital a few times. And every time, as soon as I got there, she started moving like crazy. I bet she was laughing her tiny bottom off in there!

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 22/07/2022 15:24

It's reassuring to see it's not just me then..
she's been quiet the last two days and today has been pretty consistently active since I've woken up.

The doctor started talking about inducing etc (not yet obviously) so that kinda scared me aswell thinking well I don't want her out before she needs to be especially if it's just the way she is! I also have a blood clotting condition which they're being cautious about (never had a blood clot) I'm already under a consultant due to this.

I feel like they start going wild once on the monitor because maybe they can hear the echos themselves too? They're pretty loud aren't they.

My baby doesn't have a pattern either. I also can't feel all the movements - could see them on a scan (anterior placenta)
I think there's a lot to be said for trusting your instincts - I usually just lie down and concentrate if I haven't noticed anything for a while (usually when busy)

Spottybutterfly · 22/07/2022 16:23

I'm 37 weeks but haven't really had a pattern.

Baby movements were stronger up to about 33 weeks and as baby has got bigger it's more just like rolls or small pushes.

If baby hasn't moved by the end of the day I will drink some lucozade and lie on my left. This usually gets baby moving.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 22/07/2022 16:28

Forgot to mention, at my last scan the other day the baby was moving around loads and the scanner was saying wow she won't stop moving etc, I couldn't feel any of it !
And I have a high posterior placenta too

I've had 4 scans through my pregnancy, baby is always moving load but I could never feel it.

Bubbles021 · 22/07/2022 17:03

I'm 36+5 and only just (as in maybe the last 3 weeks) would say my baby has a pattern!
Sadly we lost our first baby last year late in the pregnancy, so I've been in and out of hospital with reduced movements (must have been in over 10 times between 23 and 35 weeks). It was all because she didn't have a pattern and I was stressing myself so much looking for this 'pattern'!
In the end what I've found useful (though I appreciate not everyone would find this helpful), is writing times in my phone when I feel her move. Having a visual record that I can check has brought me so much reassurance! When I'm questioning whether she's moved now I can just look at my notes and see it wasn't actually that long ago that I last felt her.
But whatever you do, never feel worried about going in. Also don't worry about the induction, I sometimes got the impression this was almost a 'threat' to stop me going in, but they will only do what is safe for you and baby. You're just being a cautious mummy and there's nothing wrong with that 💙

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 23/07/2022 17:17

@Bubbles021 So sorry for your loss, it's no wonder you've been on edge this time and in and out.

I've been extremely anxious this pregnancy but I was started on 50mg sertraline about 4 weeks ago and I have felt so much better, apart from the baby switching things up all the time and sending me into panic mode.
The last two days she has been very active after two quiet days. So maybe this is her pattern...

34 weeks here and still no pattern - some days a lot more movements than others as well. I've been in and out of triage for reduced movements and it's always been fine (baby always goes mental the second someone up in triage starts checking her over...typical!).

I'd have a chat with your midwife about it and I'm sure she'll put you at ease :)

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 24/07/2022 17:39

@plum711 It's just confusing more than anything isn't it, I struggle to decide what counts ! And feel like a nuisance aswell, I know rationally I'm not but sometimes you feel abit silly !
She's been very active since Friday, so I am expecting a quiet couple of days again...

plum711 · 24/07/2022 17:45

I completely know what you mean - one thing I will say is since hitting around 32 weeks the movements have been a lot more intense after a growth spurt - we forget they actually can have quite a bit of room in there and its all based on their positioning etc as well! Always always worth a triage call if you're worried though, don't feel silly it's what they're there for!

Spottybutterfly · 24/07/2022 18:05

The last time I went to the MAU I felt like I was a nuisance. They were busy I had to sit in the corridor for ages and nearly fainted in the heat. I only got seen when a doctor walked past and saw I was looking very grey and being fanned by a newspaper.

I probably should have went again during the heatwave, and atleast another couple of times. Today and yesterday I've had lots of movement. My baby does not like it being hot.
