Potential IUGR

32 weeks pregnant, having regular growth scans (every 2 weeks so far).

-28 weeks scan baby was on 50th percentile
-30 weeks scan baby was in-between 25th and 50th percentile
-32 weeks scan baby is now at 10th percentile

Had my next consultant appointment brought forward because of the decline in growth and my next scan brought forward from 3 weeks time to 2 weeks time (expected this one).

I have no idea what the consultants will say or do and I have another week to find out!

Has anyone had anything similar? I've had two previous babies who were on slightly smaller size when born, both in 6lb range, both also had growth tail off a bit towards end but not this early or this dramatic on the graphs.

Both previous two were induced at 37 weeks for growth and movements, but was going to opt for c-section this time due to traumatic induction that ended in emergency c-section last time!

Sonographer mentioned possible IUGR even though baby weight relatively okay, just a little small but it's the growth in between scans they are worried about....

If you had IUGR or suspected IUGR what plan was put into place and when did you deliver?

@madeleine85 oh no :( I'm so sorry! We can keep everything crossed that he's gonna be a bit chunkier than predicted 🤞 least you have only 3 days!! I can't wait to hear how everything goes!

I'm convinced they mis-measured at my last scan, when I watched them line up the circle around the head and tummy it wasn't even round the edge of it properly, the tummy one was at an angle and not even in the circle properly! I don't even know what I can do about it because we aren't having anymore scans 🤦‍♀️

@EllieJai44 honestly my doctor today said that the problem with the weekly scans is that the parents become neurotic and dependent on the upswing in results and he is right. It was horrible to see the numbers go backwards, even though I knew in my gut that last week wasn't right. Similar to you, she said he was at a weird angle, and I saw the measurements being taken too big. Maybe you're better off not knowing if it won't change anything anyway? Thanks for the good thoughts, just need to make it through 3 more days, then no more pregnancies for me ever! Will keep you posted, please let me know how you get on x

Try not to worry @madeleine85 ; even if he does have to go to NICU it may be for a shorter stint than your daughter did. Size isn’t totally everything! As I said, much to everyone’s surprise my 4lbs9 baby avoided it. Definitely keep some tiny onesies packed! Good luck - he’ll be fine and tucked up in your dressing gown with you in no time (or perhaps it’s just me who does that…) 😆

Moancup · 06/08/2022 08:48

I hope everything goes smoothly on Monday @madeleine85 and you get the shortest possible NICU stay.

madeleine85 · 06/08/2022 16:29

Thanks everyone, fingers crossed it goes that way, and honestly it’s always good to hear the positive outcomes others have experienced ❤️

EllieJai44 · 08/08/2022 09:36

@madeleine85 good luck today! Will be thinking of you and bubs xx

Just as a wee update here, baby Luke arrived Monday and clocked in at 5lbs 1oz! Just made the nicu weight cutoff, just. He is latching and peeing, and sleeping and breathing. We couldn’t be happier! Hoping night 1 is ok as that’s when our nicu daughter really showed signs of struggling, but so far things look really positive and my little exhausted brain is well and truly blown! We didn’t bring a car seat and I unpacked his onesies from the hospital bags as I was so sure he wasn’t in with a chance of coming to recovery and home with us, so now my husband will have to get them all 😂. We will likely be here 2 nights though. Hope you’re doing well @Moancup and @EllieJai44 . Thank you so much to everyone on here for the support, it’s honestly been so great to have people to talk to about this x

Moancup · 09/08/2022 05:57

That’s fantastic! Well done baby Luke for finding that extra oz.

Moancup · 19/08/2022 10:04

How are you getting on @EllieJai44?

I hope everything is well with you and Luke @madeleine85

EllieJai44 · 19/08/2022 12:06

@Moancup hey! We aren't doing too bad! Been in a few times for scar pain and reduced movements but all fine when there and not a lot can be done as section is very soon! 4 more days!

How are you getting on?

Congratulations @madeleine85 !! Hope you’re all well and truly settled at home
now.

madeleine85 · 19/08/2022 18:22

@EllieJai44 wow 4 days?! That’s so soon, please let us know how it goes!

@Moancup were doing really well at home, I know it’s a c section myth but this guy is sleepy! We’re 11 days old and gaining around 1oz per day so the doctor is happy with him. He’s just the sweetest little snuggler ❤️. How are you doing now? Little one settling in ok?

Moancup · 21/08/2022 07:15

@EllieJai44 you’re so close! All the best for delivery.

@madeleine85 1oz a day is amazing. We’re not hitting those levels but the midwife is happy with weight gain. DS was super chilled and sleepy for the first couple of weeks but has now realised he’s been born and discovered his lungs.

madeleine85 · 29/08/2022 16:49

@EllieJai44 how did everything go last week? Hope all was good and you are home with your little one x

Haven't read the full thread but wanted to say that I have a happy healthy (and somewhat annoying!) 16year old who was born after IUGR. We had no idea anything was wrong or different until birth. Her 20week scan was normal and nothing was detected later on. She showed signs of distress during labour but was born vaginally and spent 4 days in special care and 11 in hospital. She met all her milestones on time. The only signs now of her difficult start are her dyslexia and dyspraxia. With my next pregnancy I was much more closely monitored and had a 'normal' pregnancy and delivery.
