Multivitamin without folic acid or vitamin A?

My midwife has reccomended I take a higher dose of folic acid instead of the pregnacare vitamins I have been taking.

I can't find a general multivitamin that doesn't have folic acid or vitamin A in though, can anyone recommend one? Spent forever looking at labels in the pharmacy and they all had one or the other of them in! Thanks

Can you take the ones you have plus additional folic acid? Might be easier than finding one without.

It is fine to take high dose folic acid along with pregnancy multivitamins such as Pregnacare. Pregnancy multivitamins won't have vitamin A in them as it's not recommended through pregnancy.

Thanks - I was worried it wouldn't be good to overdose on the folic acid as the midwife had said to switch from the pregnacare ones?

I had the same advice. On a high dose folic acid so midwife said no need to take pregnancy vitamins as your taking additional you don't need (additional folic acid has been linked to higher risk of baby's with a tongue tie apparently).
They only recommend folic acid and vit d, no need for a multivitamin. That's what I do high dose folic acid and a vit d tablet 👍

I just took an own brand bog standard pregnancy multivit which had 600mcg of folic acid in it, and bought extra 400mcg folic acid tablets to bring my daily intake to 1000mcg (1mg).

This was advised due to a family history of spina bifida.

I take a high-dose prescribed folic acid alongside Seven Seas pregnancy vitamins (essentially the same as Pregnacare) and have since about four weeks.

You can take up to 100ug/4000IU per day

As folic acid is a water soluble Vitamin, any excess will be excreted in your urine so don't panic about intaking too much. Watch the Vit A doseage though.

Sorry ignore this. Was thinking about vitamin D rather than folic acid

If taking high dose folic acid then the other recommended vitamin is vitamin D

Naturelo one a day for women. It has vit a but the pregnancy safe form, beta carotene. And folate.

CoalCraft · 20/07/2022 13:59

Take the folic acid and potentially vitamin D. Assuming your diet is okay and you don't have any underlying health conditions you don't need the rest.

Thanks for all the input its really helpful. I think I'll just take the folic acid ( it's 5mg) and Vit D, whilst trying to eat healthily, and then check back in with the midwife next time I speak with her. Seems like a niche gap in the market!
