C- Section recovery

Hi everyone! I had a planned c-section 18 days ago and for the past few days I've been experiencing discomfort. It's below my belly button and it feels like a mixture of numbness, pins and needles, and tenderness. It's difficult to touch it or let clothes touch it without wincing, which is making breast feeding tricky. I feel a bit like I've regressed in terms of my mobility too - once again it's difficult to get up from lying down/get off the bed. My bump has gone down and the scar itself looks okay - no signs of infection. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced it, and if so, how long did it take to subside? It's really driving me nuts.

Hi,

I had a c-section two years ago. As long as there is no redness or burning hopefully you are just healing but if in doubt speak to your GP.

The only advice i can give is place a pillow at the front of your tummy when holding little one to avoid pressure. Also do not stretch or reach high as the wound is still healing. I took it very easy with my first and did not even do the stairs for a couple of weeks and now i am completely fine. I also had the soreness when trying to sit up on bed but think this is normal as you are still sore from surgery. Fingers crossed your feeling better soon and enjoying the time with your new arrival 🙂

My 18 year old scar is still numb but itches like mad, give your numbness a month & then speak to your GP, they cut through nerves when they do a c section, they may just need time but the pain you feel when clothes touch definitely isn't normal

That happens when the numbness fades and you can feel the nerves repairing. Have you tried laid back breastfeeding or side lying feeding? I never found csection discomfort affected breastfeeding positions after my 3 sections but I think it must depend on each individual body shape, length of torso etc.

I still have numb places 28 years later! Sorry😳

Mine is still numb 4 months later!

Nearly eight years later my tummy is still numb. I was told it heals but it doesn’t seem like it will for me?

I hope it is just nerve-endings repairing themselves - it is early days for me. But nonetheless worrying. I'm short and have a short torso. My bump was all in the front too! I wouldn't call the sensation when clothes or anything else touches it pain, more like the kind of weirdness you get when you get a dead arm and poke it.

Sadly, baby seems to get terrible trapped wind so lying down/side-by-side feeds don't really work as her head really needs to be higher than her bum. Plus, when I try us both lying down she always finds a way to boot me in the belly!
