23 weeks pregnant swollen feet and hands

Is it normal for the hands and feet to start getting swollen so early? I’m only 23+4 and especially my feet are swollen. Probably because of how hot it is in the UK too recently tbh. My hands are swollen too although not much, but I still had to get my rings cut off. I was worried about pre-eclampsia but my bp is completely normal?

I had really bad swelling of hands and feet when I got hot but never had preeclampsia, although like you I always panicked.

i would suggest getting in a cool bath or having a cold shower and trying to take any rings off now. I didn’t wear anything past 26 weeks. Keep you feet elevated for tonight and drink lots of water. You will retain more water if dehydrated.

@Applegreenb it does get worse when it’s hot tbh. I’m at a barbecue right now in 30 degrees and my feet are swollen 🥺 I’ll try the cool bath tonight, hopefully that’ll help. I’m not wearing any rings because I had to get them cut off 2 weeks ago

Swollen feet, when it’s hot especially, and without any other symptoms is almost certainly not PE. Just keep an eye on everything else - blurred vision, headaches, vomiting etc

Can you sit with your feet in a bowl of cold water? That's worked a trick for me today! I used a plastic laundry basket

Try and get your feet in some cold water and then elevate them later. I'm 37 weeks and my feet are so swollen it's awful. I am now resigned to wearing my gardening flip flops everywhere including work Blush it's quite normal in hot weather but if you are worried then ring your midwife

If you're concerned you can get a blood pressure machine? Then you can keep an eye on any changes. I did have pre eclampsia and had swollen hands/feet for quite a long time but no other symptoms. I wasn't diagnosed until 38 weeks when I started having protein in my urine and my BP shot up.
