Your poor friend

Awful to have just lost her mum.

As regards morning sickness.....i coped best when munching on a little toast or crackers...[dh gave me gingernuts,...bleurch] whilst still in bed.
Then eating very small amounts regularly.
It never fully went away, but made it all more tolerable.
I was put on medication eventually...but that knocked me out.

Maybe try Sea bands? They work by accupressure, a point on the inside of the wrist.

Peppermint tea
toast
water
coke
digestives
crackers
starch and carbs

I find eating little and often (even though I really don't feel like it) helps.

So sorry to hear about your friends mum.

candypandy · 17/01/2008 19:01

Very sorry, she will miss her Mum's help.

ginger I would say
and eating little and often as moveit says

keeping crackers on the bedside table and eating before getting out of bed

congrats to her and good luck x

Ribena or similiar - tastes OK on the way back up

preSTonLAcY · 17/01/2008 19:30

lol

addictedtoharibo · 17/01/2008 20:03

I am so sorry to hear about her mum - what an awful time she must be going through.

NOT Ribena or orange juice! These are fine if you are just sick...but tmi here...if you tend to be violently/forecefully sick like I always am with morning sickness then it can come out of your nose and it hurts like hell! Seriously I used to be crying with the pain.

I find high sugar things work - lucozade, haribo sweets, donuts.

If there is anything at all she can somtach get her to eat it - this will probably change by the day - but it doesnt matter how unhealthy it is just eat it if it makes her feel better!

Also tiredness and stress make it worse. Not sure there is anything in this situation you can do to help with this.

Also homeopathy, reflexology and accupuncture are meant to help

xx

candypandy · 17/01/2008 21:34

while on subject of what is revolting to come back up
please advise her not to eat weetabix
never to sit in the back of a car
if on a bus then sit on a newspaper
never let your stomach get empty as (TMI) retching bile is so very painful
not tight waistbands
cook slightly bigger meals (if can face cooking) then eat one small portion.. and (sorry about this) wait to throw it up then in small window of not feeling nauseous afterwards you can eat a proper meal (that's disgusting i'm sorry)
I hope it goes for her soon

ginger beer with ice or cold from the fridge.
ginger biscuits.
dry toast.
crackers.
milk.
mints.

preg vitamins with folic acid if shes worried about nutrients.

i hope your friend will be able to use the good things her mum instilled within her, and her happy memories to draw on to help her through the pregnancy and then motherhood.

best wishes to her.

loads of sleep too really helps.
I had awful sickness but with each pregnancy found certain foods that helped.
Ds1 dryish plain cake and lots of orange ice lollies (in the middle of winter)
dd1 salami and pinapple juice (would you believe I lived on nothing else for nearly 6 weeks lol
dd2, fizzy water and japanese rice crackers and salt and vinegar chrisps

sweets are good too i found chewy kids sweets the best that takes the horrible taste away n your mouth.
Hope that helps

addictedtoharibo · 18/01/2008 08:27

Candypandy - pmsl laughing here! I so do that with the two meals! I always "hope" I will be sick earlier on in the meal so I get to eat lots of it afterwards. How disgusting are we, lol. But so true!

Another friend who has sickness used to do the same thing. She used to purposely eat something that would come back up easily like soup and then have a "proper" meal after being sick.

On the subject of things not to eat - do not eat curry - it burns like hell if you are sick. And do not eat pizza - the dough is too heavy and will get stuck in your throat.

Icecream on the other hand is usually still yummy on the way back up.

Well you did ask....
