Miscarriage on Sertraline

Hi all,

I am currently going through a miscarriage (MMC at around 6 weeks, found on scan at 10 weeks then bleeding started naturally a few days later). This is my second MMC - the first was three years ago and in between I had a healthy pregnancy with a gorgeous two year old running around now.

I have anxiety and depression which is much worse during pregnancy. I am on 50mg Sertraline and decided to remain on this while TTC as this seemed to pose lowest risk to me and the baby, whilst allowing me to be mentally well for my toddler.

I want to TTC again asap, but I am questioning whether I should stay on the antidepressants. Does anyone have a good news story about a successful pregnancy whilst on Sertraline?

Thank you for reading.

So sorry about your miscarriage.

I was reading up online and apparently sertraline is one of the better antidepressants to be on for pregnancy xxx

@Rightgroove hi. I'm on 100mg seratraline daily. I've been on this dose since before pregnancy and just hit 36 weeks.

I've been told my seratraline won't cause any issue for my pregnancy.

Thank you both for the replies

Sorry for your loss. Im a midwife and have had heaps of women on Sertraline. I used to work with the mental health team and it was their first line treatment during pregnancy. I wouldn't have thought the Sertraline was a factor in your miscarriage, unfortunately about 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, many with no known cause

Thanks so much for the reply, it's so reassuring to get your professional view. If you don't mind me asking - is my weight likely to be a factor? My BMI is currently 32 - the highest it's ever been

@Rightgroove there are so many reasons why miscarriages happen and the majority of the time you never find out why. Having a raised BMI does increase your risk but equally it may have had nothing to do with it.
