Why did u have the section first time around?

'Failure to progress'
Essentially baby in the wrong position so induction didn't work, emergency c section

If your heart is set on it then I say follow your heart. You will have to discuss your birth options obviously with midwife and consultant obstetrician. This sounds so lame but I truly believe in the power of affirmations. Find a sentence that works, you may feel silly initially but every day say out loud and in your head a positive affirmation and watch your body follow....

How long ago was the section? I think that's the main thing to consider.

Sounds like a good plan.

You have got this lady!!

Stuckandinamess · 16/07/2022 12:12

I did this and if I had my time again, would 100% absolutely no way attempt it. I ended up with an emergency forceps delivery and uterine rupture and very nearly died-the first two days of my sons life were apart from me as I was in Critial Care. It was horrific and I have only just managed to deal with the PTSD it left me with.

Talk to your medical team in detail about the risks, pros and cons. I may be an extreme example and I'm perfectly aware it works fine for others but felt I had to post this. If you do go ahead with it, I wouldn't risk a home birth.

Thank you for sharing, I'm really sorry you had to go through that!
I wouldn't risk a home birth either

Previous midwifery sister here.
I've seen it all.
Yes, there will be a risk of uterine rupture.
Another section there are risks.
Vaginal births there are risks.
In every aspect of life, there are risks.

OP nobody will be able to tell you either way whether you will have a successful vbac or not. A successful section or not.
But perhaps stop reading this thread as I truly truly believe reading negative stories is not helpful. It is in fact the opposite.

Discuss the risks of all the options with your healthcare professional. Decide then what you want to do.

YOU HAVE GOT THIS MAMA. WHATEVER comes your way - you have got this. I want to remind you of this.
Repeat after me:-
I have got this!!!

  • now leave thread. And Google positive vbac / birth stories.

Haha thank you for this. I have been doing some research and feel fairly confident I'm aware of the major risks for each scenario and their probability

I actually think my biggest issue will be standing up for my choices if/when my consultant tries to convince me to just book a repeat c section

I hope you find the strength to stand up for yourself should you require it. Failing that, I hope you can bring you partner along who will be able to advocate for you should you need it. Also please remember part of your midwifes job is to be an advocate for women's choice.

If your midwife doesn't support you, there will be a consultant midwife who will.

Try and put this worry aside for now. The truth is, a consultant can't operate on you without your consent. And the idea that you will be pushed into a section and have to defend your choice may well never come about. My point is, don't worry. If it happens, you will find the strength or you'll find an advocate. As I said before, YOUVE GOT THIS!

Hi, I had a VBAC 2.5 years after C section. Overall I had a good experience. I found reading around labour, signs, being prepared with childcare etc massively helped (generic things I know, but my first section was planned after weeks in hospital with complications so didn't have a clue second time round). One thing that really helped with contractions was reading around hyponobirthing, listening to positive affirmations through contractions really helped me to focus my mind. I had an episiotomy in the end with forceps due to foetal distress but my recovery was so much quicker than c section, milk came in quicker etc. Good luck!!
