To be worried about travelling to hospital for scan in 38-40 degree heat?

I’ve got my 12 week scan on Monday when the weather is supposed to be the hottest ever recorded in the country. I’ll actually be almost 14 weeks. Is it crazy to be worried about travelling down in the heat? The hospital is 40 mins away! Is it worth trying to rearrange it?

Dress appropriately and make sure you have water to drink. You'll be fine.

How are you travelling?

Thingsthatgo · 15/07/2022 10:28

How are you getting there? Car or train I would, but if I had to catch a bus I'd tried to rearrange. The twelve week scan has a reasonably short window of time for accuracy of measurements I believe.

Car with air con? At almost 14 weeks you don’t want delay because it’ll be too late for some of the screenings by then

L0ts · 15/07/2022 10:30

@TiredInPerpetuity I’ll be travelling in a car, so I know it could be worse. I’m just a very anxious, paranoid person 😂

Take a thermos or insulated water bottle filled with ice and water. Wear loose, light clothing. Take a banana or something to replenish electrolytes due to increased water intake.

Don't reschedule, the scan should be done at this time for a reason.

I think if you have the air con on the car will probably be cooler than most other places. Make sure you ha e plenty of water with you too though .

girlmom21 · 15/07/2022 10:31

You'll be absolutely fine in the car

eurochick · 15/07/2022 10:34

The car will be cool, the hospital will be cool. You only have to manage the walk from the car park!

A few years back I had my section on the hottest day of the year. I had to travel by public transport (central London hospital) and was nil by mouth. You will be fine!

LolaJ87 · 15/07/2022 10:42

If you were hanging about waiting on public transport then that could be a problem but in a nice air-conditioned car you'll be fine. Make sure you're well protected from the sun and keep hydrated.

TiredInPerpetuity · 15/07/2022 11:07

Ah @L0ts I think you'll be fine in a car. Go at your own pace, you can take lots of drinks and snacks. In the last week I've enjoyed being in my car with the lovely lovely air con.

I wouldn't have fancied a train or bus much but you will be grand in the car. Hope your scan goes well

20viona · 15/07/2022 11:15

You'll be fine if your car has windows or air con.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 15/07/2022 11:19

You'll be fine, take plenty of cold drinks and snacks if you need perking up. Air con or windows down. The hospital might be quite cool.

Imogensmumma · 15/07/2022 11:41

If you can have the car in the shade before you get in so it’s not too hot when you get in, then open the windows for the first few minutes of your drive to get the hot air out ( as an Aussie who is used to driving in horrible weather and also pregnant)

PollysPockets · 15/07/2022 11:45

You'll be absolutely fine. Just make sure you have a cold drink and something to eat in your bag incase.
I'm 37 weeks and yesterday had to get a bus on my own to my scan, the journey was over an hour, not including a 10 minute walk either side of the bus journey and there was no air con on the bus plus windows that only open a tiny crack. I just made sure I had lots of water, wore cool clothes and took it slowly. It was bloody horrible but at 12 weeks and in a car you will be fine! 😊
At least the hospital was pretty cool once I got there aswell.
