Petite Pregnancy!

Dippydonky · 14/07/2022 22:22

I’m not currently pregnant but I am petite (4ft 11, size 6 to 8 depending on the brand, and really wish I had size 3 feet because 2.5 is a pain to buy shoes for! I’m a healthy weight, but I’m not ‘skinny’ so figure my bones are pretty small!). My mum is also small (but taller than me) and my dad said he was shocked she didn’t topple over when pregnant.

I know this is probably really insignificant….but I just can’t comprehend where a baby would actually ‘fit’ in my body!

Sooo.. I just wondered, how any smaller pregnant ladies are finding your pregnancy?

I’m not quite as short, I’m 5’3 but weigh just over 7 stone so quite petite that way… I thought it would be a concern for me but I was always told that our bodies are made for this purpose and we will only ever grow to what is natural to us personally. So for example, by the time I gave birth I weighed 8 stone 9 lb. Try not to worry, your body will be prepared to do what it needs to do 😀

Razputini · 14/07/2022 22:30

I'm 5'1 and was about 7 and a half stone when I had my first. I found personally that I didn't show that much until much later on, and idk if it's because I'm small but my daughter was just under 6lbs when she was born, and I ate pretty normally and frequently during my pregnancy. I never had pains from the weight or anything like that. I always wondered if maybe smaller people's babies are more likely to be smaller too since they have to fit in there/won't be getting as much food passed through as someone taller perhaps? Idk but that was my experience anyway!

LuciferRising · 14/07/2022 22:34

4"10. DD10. She was 7.10 when born. I didn't even hit the overweight category when pregnant but did loose half a stone in the first trimester due to morning sickness.

Pregnancy was fine. I struggled with driving because I need the seat forwards, hard to do with a bump.

Fleur405 · 14/07/2022 22:41

I’m 5ft exactly and was about 48kilos pre pregnancy. Towards the end I was pretty large - not much room in my torso so bump had to go out. Even my maternity clothes didn’t fit! My daughter was 8lb 5 so relatively ginormous. Pregnancy was absolutely fine despite me being a geriatric 40 year old!

KittyCatsby · 14/07/2022 22:46

Just under 5ft with a size 4 shoe although many 3.5 also ok. Dh is 5.11.
Two babies , first weighed 7.7 , 2nd 7.12 .

GCHeretic · 14/07/2022 22:49

I’m 5’6”, and was size 8 when I had each of mine. They were full-term normal births, babies around 50th percentile, and there were no significant complications.

Two healthy babies delivered, no tearing, no issues for mother or babies.

Emmelina · 14/07/2022 22:52

I have an inch on you at 5’ and was size 8 with my first 2. No problems really, a little tearing with one.

FirstFallopians · 14/07/2022 23:01

I’m 5’3 with a really short torso- my bump just grew OUT as there was no where else for it to go!

There was no elegant, dainty Kate Middleton bump for me.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 14/07/2022 23:02

I'm about the same dimensions as you. I had a huge bump because the only way was out Smile

BoJoGoGo · 14/07/2022 23:05

five feet one, three babies , 2 were 9Lb one 8 and a half pounds, absolutely no problems with the birth. All mega quick with no pain relief. I did get back ache with my first and found it hard to get comfortable at night but this isn’t unusual.

FTMFML · 14/07/2022 23:05

5ft and a size 6/8, 49kg had a little one nearly 8 months ago.
Kept fit and my figure throughout pregnancy but had (to me) an ENORMOUS belly. Belly measured small throughout and had extra scans but baby always measured fine, LO was 7,3lbs and delivered via c-section(not due to my size).
Was really tough at the end of pregnancy, pain, skin stretching, back was agony, ribs agony, shortness of breath. I realise these are all pregnancy side effects but midwife did suggest that perhaps having a smaller frame meant there was less space and baby could get right in about the ribs etc!
Also couldn’t comprehend a baby fitting in the body… still not sure how it does… but they do!

Motherofcats007 · 14/07/2022 23:06

I’m 4’11 46kg. My first was 7lb13 and second 9lb2, my husband is 6’1 though and chunky so that’s probably why both kids are huge compared to my size. I was absolutely huge towards the end. First was emergency c section and second was planned c section, would recommend going for an elective if there’s a big size difference between you and your husband as well

BoJoGoGo · 14/07/2022 23:08

I forgot to say I found swimming really beneficial during my pregnancy.

prettyprinceofpartiez · 15/07/2022 04:13

I'm basically the exact same size as you, down to the 2.5 shoe size! I had a lovely proportionate bump during my pregnancy, I loved it, but the month 8 I felt huge and ended up going into labour a month early. He was only 5.11lb so quite diddy but I think my body knew it wouldn't fit him growing any bigger so evacuated!

JenniferBarkley · 15/07/2022 06:39

I'm 5ft 2 but not particularly tiny. DH is a foot taller than me. I grew straight out, not really to the side at all, still had a waist at the back by the end. I was ENORMOUS. Babies were both about 9.5lbs, so big, especially at my height.

Despite being huge I had really easy pregnancies and sailed through really. Both ended up being c sections,I think in part due to their sheer size.

Dippydonky · 15/07/2022 08:13

Thank you all!

Sounds like baby will fit…. Which is just crazy to think about! … If all goes to plan I’ll go swimming and possibly invest in a little table with wheels to pop the bump on 🤣.. I do sometimes need to drive for work and it never crossed my mind that I may not be able to reach the peddles (I need to practically sit on the wheel as it is!). Work should be ok though, I’ll attend stuff via Teams and asked that my face is on a laptop screen (ideally not a large fancy high definition Tv!)… DP will just need to chauffeur me around like a princess (might not have the Kate Middleton bump but I could aim for a bit of the lifestyle ha!)

I’m a bit older (38) so it’s reassuring to read that some older more petite people have managed ok too….. it’s all a bit daunting! I guess if we get pregnant the worry won’t go away for the remainder of my life!

5' 1" here and usually around 45kg and 9 babies. Range of birthweight from 5lb 9 for my first emcs birth to 7lb 12 for my second. Most have been between 6lb 6 and 7lb. I felt big with them but the midwives always commented that I was "neat". I've had 2 sections (1 and 9) and 7 vaginal births inbetween.

urrrgh46 · 15/07/2022 08:18

Last baby at age nearly 45.

Discovereads · 15/07/2022 08:20

So only 5’ here with a 6’ DH who was a 10lb baby. Yes my babies fit but they grew out as there was no room to grown down or up within my torso. My belly was bigger than a regular height woman carrying twins in my prenatal yoga group…and she had a C-section at 37 weeks whereas I was left to keep growing until 41 weeks. You can buy belly support belts which make things more comfortable and reduce stretch marks. It’s like a wide soft stretchy belt that goes around your waist/under your belly and has shoulder straps. It takes some of the weight off your tummy skin/muscles. My babies were all between 7.5lbs and 8.5lbs, and via homebirth.

maggiebun · 15/07/2022 09:43

@Motherofcats007 this is my concern, im just 5ft and hubby is 6'2" and i just dont know how a baby will fit between my legs!! Im thinking ELCS

ReadtheReviews · 15/07/2022 09:55

Is the father similarly on the smaller side or tall/large? I ask because I knew a couple where the wife was similar to you and the father was 6ft 5 and wide with it. She had a bump that did look big on her but was probably just ordinary sized itself. She was given an elective caesarean a few weeks prior to the due date so I wonder if that's something you'll be discussing. When we visited after the first month it looked like she had a three year old sitting on her lap!

This is exactly it. Huge bump with 8lb7oz baby.

PancakesWithCheese · 15/07/2022 10:25

I’m 5ft2 and was about 7st 10 when I got pregnant. My bump just stuck straight out! Also gave birth without tearing, twice (luckily). One of my children was over 8lbs.

BoJoGoGo · 15/07/2022 11:24

I did get stuck in a shower cubicle right if the end of my pregnancy so be careful of that. Also I couldn’t park my car in the garage at the end as I there wasn’t the space to get out.

Dippydonky · 15/07/2022 19:37

DP is short too, so hopefully we won’t create a massive baby! However all of the women in my family on both sides have needed caesareans... my aunt did try with her first but ended up getting rushed in for an emergency. She said it was horrible, felt really cold because she lost so much blood. I’d discuss the family history with medical people, but suspect I’ll need some help… I may not but I’d rather be cautious.

Did not think about shower cubicles!! I’m guessing some public toilet cubicles could be tricky too… some are really tiny even for regular sized non-pregnant people! And if baby is sat on bladder that could be horrible!
