Still no movement... anterior placenta

I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and haven't felt movement yet, I was told at my private 16 week even that I have an anterior placenta.

They dismissed my concerns about taking longer to feel movement this time round (second baby, first was high posterior) and said it shouldn't make much difference since it's my second baby.
I think I was around 21 weeks when I first felt movement with my first baby so was hoping it would be earlier this time round.

Should I be worried? Can anyone else share their anterior placenta experiences please?

I was anterior and had my first movement the day after my 20 week scan but nothing much until 21/22 weeks

LolaLoo2 · 14/07/2022 10:07

Thank you @BlondePotter, do you remember what point you could see movement from the outside? Or when you/your partner could feel it on your tummy?

I didn't til 23 weeks with anterior

AmbushedByCake1 · 14/07/2022 10:12

I was 22 weeks when I felt movements.

BlondePotter · 14/07/2022 10:20

@LolaLoo2 it was a while after that that my partner could see/feel anything maybe 24 weeks+

I’m 20 weeks tomorrow with my first I don’t know if I’ve felt movements or not - I get the odd bubbly feeling but it’s pretty infrequent. Then again I really don’t know what I’m looking for

I have an anterior placenta and didn't feel movement until 23+3 and even then it was very light flutters. Midwife said this was totally normal. I still don't feel a great deal at the front and feel more on my sides - I'm 36 weeks now.

WingingIt101 · 14/07/2022 10:38

Second pregnancy here and both anterior placentas.

Dd I felt flutters around 18 weeks but can't remember exactly when I felt more

This time I'm now 26 weeks and feeling loads - to the point it's making me sick! But only really the last week / ten days

I hadn’t felt anything by my 20 week scan either, found out then I had an anterior placenta. I started feeling movements between 22 and 23 weeks. I’m 28 weeks now and the movements are still getting stronger every day! The advice form my midwife was to let them know if I hadn’t felt anything by 24 weeks.

I never felt any movement with mine .Right at the end I had a horrible dragging feeling if I turned over a bit in bed .
Baby was back to back .

I have anterior placenta and I felt nothing at all until 23 weeks and the movements got regular at 25 weeks. My friend's placenta covered most of the baby and she felt very little at all through her entire pregnancy which was frustrating for her but she gave birth to a healthy baby so it didn't affect that at all.

prettylittlethingss · 14/07/2022 10:48

I didn't feel movement until 27ish weeks I believe.

Eryr22 · 14/07/2022 10:49

I’m anterior placenta, first baby, felt my first movements about 23 weeks.

Mally100 · 14/07/2022 11:45

I felt movement at 16 weeks with my anterior placenta. I wasn't sure because the doctor said it will only be much later on. But by 18 w I was certain and felt a pattern by then. Everyone is different and reading online it varies. It is more normal to feel it much later though.

Differentnamethistime · 14/07/2022 18:33

Second pregnancy, anterior placenta (again - had it in first pregnancy) and didn't feel any movements til 23 weeks!

Herecomestreble1 · 14/07/2022 19:49

Proper movement not until 22/23 weeks for me!

YourUserNameMustBeAtLeast3Characters · 14/07/2022 19:52

Anterior in second pregnancy and it was 20 weeks I think, maybe a bit more.

DC1 was posterior and I felt him much earlier on the outside too, it makes a huge difference.

Loulou1712 · 14/07/2022 19:54

I think it really depends on position of placenta and you/your baby, I'm pregnant with my 3rd baby, first time having an anterior placenta and felt movement at 16 weeks, and you could see and feel the movement on the outside from 21 weeks despite me being podgy around the middle. I do however get no movement around my belly button, it's all to the sides and I feel alot downwards towards my cervix.
My point is if your 20 weeks then baby is only up to your belly button so it's perfectly reasonable that the placenta is covering the whole front of your womb. I did however get a cute view of baby hugging the placenta in 3d at my 16 weeks appointment due to the placenta placement 😂 x

My first was such a wriggler, I literally felt every movement, he wasn't still for a second. DS2 (anterior placenta) was a different story. to the extent I barely felt anything at all throughout my pregnancy. The important thing is you identify what is normal for you and don't worry about contacting your midwife/hospital if you are worried.

CustardCreamm · 15/07/2022 07:13

I had an anterior placenta too and didn't feel anything until about 22/23 weeks Smile
