17 weeks movements with an anterior placenta.

Hi all.

Baby number 3, first anterior placenta.
I’m 17+2 weeks with a baby boy.
I have been feeling him move for a week or 2, very low down.

This week I have felt pressure, like he’s pushing his whole body to one side, if I lay flat I can feel a hard lump in the area below my tummy button, it’s the oddest feeling, if I give a gentle press he moves away, I’m also feeling a rolling sensation.

At my midwife appointment yesterday she seemed not to believe the movements I was describing and said it was too early to feel anything and if i did it would be a light popping.
She also said baby was the size of a prune and was highly unlikely that was what I was feeling.

I’m showing a fair bit, weight wise I’m around 53kg, so I’m wondering if anyone else had those movements and did you know it was definitely baby?

My midwife made me feel a bit silly and question what I’m feeling is normal.

Any help appreciated. 🙂

She said the baby was the size of a prune? At 17 weeks?

Are you sure she was a midwife?!

Megabloxx · 13/07/2022 20:04

Congrats on your pregnancy! 😀The pressure you describe seems more like Braxton-Hicks to me. I had them early on in both my pregnancies, even though most places say you're unlikely to get them until later. That said, I definitely felt movement at 17 wks with an anterior placenta, so it's not impossible. At that point it was definitely a light popping though (in addition to the BH) and very sporadic.

Snowflakes1122 · 13/07/2022 20:12

Well, that’s a big prune 😳

Not sure why she is dismissing kicks for someone pregnant with a third baby. You certainly know what you are looking for and how it feels.

This is also my first baby with an anterior placenta too, but I am getting kicks I can feel from the outside now. Have done for a couple of weeks now. 20 weeks tomorrow.

Beaubaby · 13/07/2022 20:18

@SteelCicada I went 2 weeks ago for a heartbeat check at 15 weeks and mentioned that I thought I’d felt movement and she said he was grape size.
I thought maybe she’d got me confused with someone else but at yesterday’s appointment she had my notes out and she said he was very small prune size and my uterus was fist size.

She made it clear that she didn’t believe the movements I had been feeling.

She also made a mistake when letting me know my hcg levels very early on, she told me they had dropped dramatically and I went into panic mode but when I got the form and read them for myself they had doubled, which went I went for my scan all was on track.

She has 10 years experience.

@Snowflakes1122

Exactly what I thought. I’ve checked on multiple apps that say a large onion. 12cm crown to rump at 17 weeks.

I felt early movements with my daughter too, she was my 2nd pregnancy so I know what I’m feeling.

Thank you for meme know that you too can feel baby moving with an anterior placenta. From what I’ve read a lot of ladies don’t feel anything until after 30 weeks or so.

@Snowflakes1122 *letting me know. 😅

A prune?! I'd change midwives she doesn't sound all that good.

I'm expecting twins and know for sure I felt them at 12 weeks. Midwife said it was too early but I know what I felt. Felt them again about a week ago but nothing since so makes me worried. 16 week appt isn't until next week.

PinkButtercups · 13/07/2022 20:31

Also to note this is my second pregnancy and j felt DS early on too!

PinkButtercups · 13/07/2022 20:31

Beaubaby · 13/07/2022 20:32

@Megabloxx Thank you.

It feels like a tight pressure but also a shape if that makes sense.
I don’t remember feeling that until much later with my first 2 pregnancy’s this early on anyway.

It’s an odd sensation but a good one at the same time.

I have considered swapping midwife just because she makes me feel a bit silly on more than 1 occasion now, but I’ve got this far with her and she’s very nice.

Getting you confused with someone else was my thought too. My mind is boggling now so I'm just being nosy - but if you see her again, will you please tell us what she says when you remind her you've already found out the sex, your uterus is about up to your belly button, etc etc?

Obviously completely normal to feel movements at 17 weeks! I'm 22 weeks now, also third baby and first anterior placenta, and I have been feeling her move since a bit before then. To begin with it wasn't in quite as much of a pattern as I was expecting. But more every day.

Loulou1712 · 13/07/2022 20:33

I'm pregnant with my 3rd, 1st time having an anterior placenta too!
I felt movements from 16 weeks, just in a slightly different place to where I did with DD1 and DD2, more to the side and sort of inside me and down towards my cervix due to the placenta. I was feeling kicks and rolls from 18 weeks-ish and I'm heavier than you so have more padding 😂
I'm now 27 weeks and he's really stretching and youve been able to see his movements from outside for a while so the anterior placenta hasn't changed anything for me 🤷 x

User000111 · 13/07/2022 20:36

I had an anterior placenta with my first baby and felt movement before 20 weeks. can't remember exactly how early but I remember I wasn't expecting to feel movement so soon!

Flittingaboutagain · 13/07/2022 20:38

I think it's the tightness that maybe had her thinking it was BH.

This amused me by Amy Greenlee: At 10 weeks your baby is the size of a kumquat. If you have trouble picturing a kumquat, your baby could also be the size of a prune. If you have trouble picturing a prune, you do not expose yourself to enough new experiences, and you probably don’t eat enough fruit.

Candycats · 13/07/2022 20:41

I had an anterior placenta and felt DS move at 17 weeks. Everyone was shocked that I felt him so early as he was my first but I definitely did!

Beaubaby · 13/07/2022 20:42

@SteelCicada
When I told her yesterday that I’d had a private scan and I knew the gender she was a bit shocked. She even asked where I’d been able to book that.
Where I live isn’t a large area and it took me a 2 second google to find somewhere close that offered non referral scans. I had to pay of course.

I mean yesterday she said oh yes your 17 weeks so she’s knows how far along I am.
It just seems odd is all.

I’ve been feeling him different times of the day, mostly after eating and then resting and just before going to bed.
I know I’m not imagining it. 😂

@Candycats
Yep, you are more in tune with your body when pregnant and know what new movements inside you are. No mistaking them for sure.

I would change midwives.
I felt my baby move at 15-16 weeks with an anterior placenta, and could see kicks from 18 weeks.I mentioned it to my midwife that I knew exactly where my placenta was as the movements were absent in one patch on my belly, about the size of a plate. She didn’t believe me, but an anterior placenta surely won’t cover the entirety of the front of your belly so you will feel movement, somewhere.

I wouldn’t have much faith in your midwife I have to say.

Beaubaby · 13/07/2022 20:52

@Loulou1712

Yes,that’s what I told her yesterday, that the movements were very low, like he was scratching gently on my bladder. I think I need to pee but i don’t. So weird.

I could see from under her mask she thought I was crazy.

OP posts:
Beaubaby · 13/07/2022 20:57

@Cherrymarket

That thought has crossed my mind.
She made an earlier mistake with my hcg reading.

She is lovely. I’ll give her another chance. By the time I see her next time I’ll be 21 weeks and if she say’s he’s the size of a strawberry I’ll be swapping. 😂

This made me laugh cos I think the biggest thing I’ve learned from pregnancy so far is what size different fruit are 😂

I've an anterior placenta and was 22 weeks before I felt anything that I was certain was my baby which was a horrible wait. If I was your midwife I'd be thrilled that you felt your baby early as it would probably quell any potential anxieties! So strange that she seems that obtuse to the practice of private scans, they're not exactly uncommon!
