Constant nausea - 9 weeks

Supposed to be WFH at the mo, currently sat on the couch. Really struggling to function. The constant nausea seems to have really taken a hold of me in the last week. I feel bad because there's ladies out there who can't stop being sick and im not that bad but I feel crap. I've filled out a request for a doctors appointment but not sure what they will offer?

I am using the sickness bands, ice water, and trying my best to eat regularly and plain but it's a bit of a constant battle right now.

Any other advice appreciated 💛

Oh no :(
Are you going to try some medication from docs ?
I was awful yesterday, tension headache and thought I'd vomit wvwry time I moved. My sis gad it really bad and tried a few didn't medications before one worked.

Take some time off from work though if ita too much, ho estly not worth it to push yourself. It could ease in a couple of weeks too, so go with how you feel now.

Have a look at the advice of pregnancy sickness supports website. They have a helpline too.

One of the things the doctor may recommend is anti sickness tablets another good thing is anti acid as this can reduce your nausea a lot.

If you are struggling to work they may sign you off for a while.

I read an article that analysed lots of studies and found that weeks 9 & 10 are the peak of morning sickness/nausea. Anecdotally from reading threads on here, it seems most people agree with that as well. So even though it's awful now, hopefully this is the peak for you and it will ease off soon.

Other than that, just eat little and often, and whatever you can. Also rest - if you're wfh, can you nap at lunch? Or take some time off?

I found cyclizine from the GP helped with my nausea as well.

Thank you everyone 🧡
I had read about some medication but wasn't sure if it was offered if you aren't actually being sick?

I'll check out the website too thank you.

I'm really struggling to get the pattern right with eating. If I feel hungry, I feel worse, but then I also feel sick after eating and made worse by a horrible sour taste in my mouth like I've not brushed my teeth for weeks or something.

I hate ginger when I'm not pregnant and remember trying some crystallised stuff when I was pg with my DD and it made me worse (although i wasnt this bad!) Are ginger nut biscuits any good I think that's about all the ginger I could handle!

@Junglegal how far along are you? Headache in the mix can't have been nice either 😔

I wondering about work. The thought of trying to sit in meetings does make it worse. I had a face to face meeting on Friday and they must have thought I was really bored or something, I just kept doing really big puffs of air, it was so hard! I just can't seem to concentrate!

I found the sickness bands rubbish, but I bought an emeterm bracelet and it was honestly amazing.

Sipping on full fat coke during the day helped me. It contains some ginger syrup but you can't taste it. Week 9 was the worst, it (very) gradually got better after that.

hermionegranger · 11/07/2022 12:32

Sympathies OP! Another vote for coke here - I went with caffeine free diet coke and it helped a lot - just lots of little sips throughout the day. The only respite I had from nausea was when I was asleep which was no good working full time, but it did tail off by week 11 and by week 12 - 13 it had gone almost completely except in response to food aversions.

Cool showers also helped me (which wasn't fun back in January, might be more pleasant now) get rid of the sicky feeling just a little.

Ginger, dry crackers etc did nothing for me and I resented everyone who just told me to have a gingernut and i'd feel like a new woman! Coke and sparkling water (both very cold) were the only things that helped me.

Fingers crossed it'll pass soon - other posters are right, weeks 9 and 10 are the peak of it and it's miserable. But it will pass soon!

rickandmorts · 11/07/2022 12:37

Sympathies because it's fucking horrible 😭 I was literally in tears with pregnancy sickness! I found ice lollies helped get some water/ sugar in me. I also really liked salt and vinegar crisps and found I was able to eat them without feeling sick. Think my body was craving salt after being sick so much. Can you try nibbling on a bag of them?

rickandmorts · 11/07/2022 12:40

Ps when you're in the midst of it you feel like you'll feel sick forever but I promise it WILL pass. I'm 20 weeks now and it's a distant memory even though it wasn't really that long ago 🙈

madeinthe80z · 11/07/2022 13:08

Thank you, I'll try some coke! And have a look at that bracelet too 🙂

I have felt slightly better today, I have been taking it easy and not put too kuchen pressure on. I think I feel worse when I know I have to do something, like look after my toddler, attend a meeting or something. Is that even possible?!

Promethazine saved me when I was feeling like this at 9 weeks and waiting for a Dr's appointment. You can buy it without a prescription from a pharmacist (tell them it's for travel sickness, not that your pregnant). I couldn't work on it though, it knocked me out. I had to take a few days off sick.
