Decreased movement at 24 weeks

Hi. My baby usually kicks alot round about now. I'm a bit over 24 weeks and have been having this nighttime strong kicking routine for a few weeks but tonight there's nothing. I'm really anxious anyway cos of previous loss. Is there anything I can do. I've no sugary drinks to hand and my lo is in bed sleeping so don't want to be getting her up to go out. Lying here 40 minutes and have felt nothing.

Call your midwife. Now.

frenchie4002 · 09/07/2022 21:45

Go in and be seen x

britneyisfree · 09/07/2022 21:46

Have a spoon of sugar and call your midwife. X

britneyisfree · 09/07/2022 21:47

Couldn't think of anything else as you don't have a sugary drink to hand!!

I used to talk out loud to my little one and tell her mummy was worried and could she move pleaseBlush. It worked a few times but not always

Raindrops2015 · 09/07/2022 21:49

I'm trying to get through. I'm on holiday. I'm only 24 weeks. This is really freaking me out.

Don’t take any chances. Go and see the midwife if possible.

BabyBird20 · 09/07/2022 21:51

Have a glass of really cold water or even better ice water, eat some fruit, get up and dance around, play music and then have another lie down and see if you feel anything! My midwife said they don't expect any sort of routine until after 24 weeks but if in doubt give them a call even if it's just for reassurance/advice! Hope little one gives you some movement soon 🥰

DIMooney · 09/07/2022 21:51

Try having half a glass of really cold water, then lie on your left side and see if you can feel any movement.
As others have said, get in touch with your midwife or the maternity hospital unit if you’re worried xx

Tally111 · 09/07/2022 21:58

I can't add anything other than what has already been said as im going through similar worries, but one thing I read did help a bit, apparently foetuses can have up to a 90min sleep cycle. Hopefully when you speak to your midwife you can help put some of these fears to rest, or at least make arrangements for a scan to see what's happening x

lady725516 · 09/07/2022 22:02

Move around, have some sugar and a cold drink if you can. Do some squats/lunges.

It's quite normal for the baby to move more on one day and not so much the next. Please try not to worry too much.
Call your midwife if you're still concerned

SQLserved · 09/07/2022 22:03

Where are you holidaying? Perhaps we can help find the number for your nearest maternity hospital?

Raindancer411 · 09/07/2022 22:05

I would contact a triage at a local hospital. Did you take your pregnancy notes with you too?

I had this and was just baby being quiet, but don't take any chances as others have said.

MynameisJune · 09/07/2022 22:09

Try not too worry, you’re pretty early for things to not change as the baby moves. They’ll still have a fair bit of room at 24 weeks.

Definitely call and be reassured but also last time I was pregnant they wouldn’t see anyone under 27 weeks for reduced movement but it varies by trust.

user19888891 · 09/07/2022 22:10

As PP have said- a glass of very cold
water and phone maternity triage now. Something is different and you need a health professional to decide if it needs further investigated

Halfarsedjingler · 09/07/2022 22:14

Call triage tonight, even if baby moves a change in pattern or reduced movements should be checked out.

Merryclaire · 09/07/2022 22:22

They’ve probably moved to a position where you can’t feel movement as much. You should always take reduced movements seriously and get checked out if things don’t pick up, but at 24 weeks you are likely to have quiet days.

I’ve been in 3 times with reduced movements. I’ve come to the conclusion that my baby has quiet days and isn’t always as active but that makes it hard to judge.

Anyway, if you feel worried it’s always better to get checked.

USaYwHatNow · 09/07/2022 22:36

If you are worried enough to post here, then you know deep down that this is not normal/usual for your baby. Trust your instincts. You say you are on holiday, are you in the UK? Google your local maternity unit triage number and speak to them and ask to be seen. It doesn't matter if you're out of area, or don't have your notes with you, they should still see you. At 24 weeks, they will listen in with a handheld doppler, above 26 (and in some units 28 weeks) is when they will start to monitor with a CTG machine. Hope all goes well.

Raindrops2015 · 09/07/2022 22:55

I rang my maternity hospital at home and they said to go in. I rang the maternity unit where I'm holidaying (in England) and they said to go in. When I told them I would have to bring my child they did warn me it wasnt a great environment for her and while I was on I felt one kick. I asked about nipping out to get iced coke from the pub and seeing if that did anything and midwife said to try that and if things didn't start up to come in with my child.

I had 6 definite kicks (in a different place than usual) some feel lighter than usual 2 or 3 minutes after in the space of 1 minute. I was on the phone after that and didn't feel anything. Now I'm off my phone I've felt a few light ones. I'm going to call midwife back and see what she says to do.

6 kicks after a small glass of iced coke*

My baby started a weird pattern of being really active for a few days and then quiet for almost a full day. It was nerve wracking and made me sick with worry. I phoned the hospital every time tk get checked.
your baby has moved more after a sugary drink but still not it’s active self so I would phone the hospital back and ask for their advice. You would rather take your child in with you than sit and worry.

roundpegsquareholes · 09/07/2022 23:55

Still go in, reduced movements are reduced movements, just because you've felt a few movements now doesn't mean overall they haven't reduced

Raindrops2015 · 10/07/2022 00:19

I phoned them back and they said it was reassuring. Been having normal movements now for last hour. Just going to keep a close eye. Been so busy on this holiday as well with my kid. Midwife said to call tomorrow if any concerns but try and rest tonight. Last 2 nights sleep haven't been great so not sure if that and the fast pace of holiday has contributed.

Thank you all for excellent advice and support x

Lots of activity atm and throughout the day 😅

Midwife said baby might be telling me to take it easy. I have been run ragged the last few days and I did lounge about more today and listen out for kicks

Drink a cold drink and eat a sugary snack
