Paracetamol, and a cup of hot honey and lemon, its lame but its better than nothing. If you have a bunged up nose get a vicks vapour plug in. Don't have Lemsip as its got stimulants in it.

What Alison said, really. It's a killer. I'm 35 weeks and spent the whole of December witha n absolute stinking cold. All you can do is stick to the paracetamol. Don't take any decongestants or ibuprofen either. I had a cough and got some simple linctus which helped a bit. Eat lots of comfort food and try to rest.

Thinking of you because I know how rotten it is

saline drops to clear your nose, or I was told menthol crystals ok to put in a bowl of boiling water and breathe in vapour

BroccoliSpears · 16/01/2008 21:58

I take honey and lemon even when I'm not preggers because I think it works best. The honey soothes your throat and is antibacterial too. The lemon is packed with vit C. A nice warm steamy drink works wonders.

That, and Happinose which is the BEST invention in the world ever.

I had the same at 38 weeks. Lloyds pharmacy sell their own brand of lemsip type things with just paracetamol - nice and soothing

bluebell82 · 17/01/2008 09:06

I have the same given to me by my loving dh who doesn't like to take medication because can't swallow tablets! I have just been using Vicks and drinking hot lemon and lots of oj... does anyone know if the baby gets the same ailments as me so do you think the lo could be poorly with a cold too??

BellaBear · 17/01/2008 09:08

I second what everyone else has said and also - keep the fluids up

LOVEMYMUM · 17/01/2008 09:54

I disagree with Silkcushion (sorry). Lemsip type drinks may contain caffeine and decongestants and you don't know how much the drug dosage is.

I've had sinusitus for the past 11 days (have now got antibiotics). I found it making a vat of chicken soup really helped to unblock my nose - just sit near the cooker and breathe.

Also, stay away from dairy cos it makes more mucus.

Hope you feel better soon.

silkcushion · 17/01/2008 10:23

lovemymum - you are right not allowed lemsip but pharmacist said they had a version without all the decongestant stuff and just paracetamol which was ok to take - sorry if I wasn't clear before

alisonEL · 17/01/2008 11:25

I wouldn't waste your money on the Lloyds stuff - go for just supermarket paracetamol it will do the same job.

beansprout · 17/01/2008 11:28

GP gave me menthol eucalyptus to steam inhale which will help shift the gunk.

If it goes to your chest you can take Benylin (sp?) expectorant.

In fact, I'd recommend you do so if needed - I didn't and ended up in A&E and then on antibiotics for 3 weeks.

Thanks for all the advice ladies xxx

Echinacea is entirely safe for you to take. It will balance your immune system and see you through the cold very well. Alwats works for me but not for everyone though. Also safe for babies. See Jan de Vries- 'Pregnancy and Childbirth' book. Otherwise lots of ginger, garlic, lemon and honey drinks.
