Having the CVS tomorrow, am sick with fear

Having the CVS due to my nuchal scan results. Am terrified about the test but more about the "taking it easy" after, have no help at home and a 10 month old to carry around.

Should I be worried?

Scared as hell - is it possible to have some help in the next few days?

I have had 2 CVSs. I didn't have nuchal scans but went straight to CVS because of my age - I was 37 and 38 when I had my DD's.

I found the CVS uncomfortable but not painful - but I felt very emotional and teary afterwards.

My dd1 was only 7 months when I got pregnant with dd2 - so I had the same age gap.

You really need to put your feet up for the next couple of days - and need to have a bit of tlc.

Hope it all goes well.

No help available, my mum lives too far away and wouldn't come even if she didn't, my dh has to work, no choice (not his fault) and I have a 2 and a 3 year old as well as the 10 month old to look after.

I can't see a way around the having to pick up and carry my 10 month old.

ScaredAsHell, where are you getting your CVS done?

After mine, the doctor told me it was 100% successful and I had no risk of miscarriage. I am not sure how he knew but I was fine. Like hotmama, you should sit down for an hour or so after the procedure. But after that, I did not really take it easy at all.

But then I did not have other children to look after, although I did do a commute/work as per normal.

In fact, I don't remember being advised to take it easy. I can see how it would be sensible to, but if not possible, I don't think it would change things?

Is your dh going with you? If not how are you getting home and who is going to look after the children?

Can I friend come round - even if they have los -will be playmates for yours and then you may be able to put your feet up.

I'm for you as you need to have some support.

I have had three CVS tests, one with each of my pregnancies.

Ds1 was 10 months when I had my second and that actually was the worst CVS for me. Not because of ds1 but the test itself.

I just didn't move the baby unless I really had to. I got clothes etc in the living room and just camped on the sofa with him until dh came home. I let ds1 fall asleep on the sofa for a couple of night rather than carry him to bed since dh wasn't home.

My top tip is find something to hold on or sit on your hands during it to stop you thinking or actually using your arms to push the doc away.

By the way the other two CVS test were a breeze

Dh is going with me but has to go back to work straight after. My 2 older Lo's are in nursery in the morning home in the afternoon so dh will pick them up and drop them at home with me then go off to work.

Don't have anyone that could come around, wish I did. Thanks for the support guys.

I am having it done at Oxford John Radcliffe Hospital. Don't know much about it as my nuchal scan was this morning and they booked me straight in tomorrow at Oxford as I am 2 days off 13 wks so very near the end of my window.

Scaredashell,

do you have a DVD recorder? Any chance of borrowing some DVDs that your DCs have not seen? Or a couple of new books from a friend? Even if you get a couple of comics. They are more likely to sit and listen if the stories are new.

Get DH to make you all some sandwiches and snacks, flask of tea, juice etc. Have a "Pyjama Day" with picnic in the living room.

Good luck!

blueshoes · 16/01/2008 21:16

ScaredAsHell, can your dh send you home? Otherwise, make sure you have money for a cab. You might be a little shakey after.

Do you have a sling for your 10-month old?

Hi Guys

Firstly thank you for all the support.

After all the drama we got there and had a scan and were told that due to the position of my placenta they couldn't do it safely so I have to wait and have an amnio now which won't be until 7th February.

Good to hear that everything is ok, glad they did not do the CVS if they were not sure that it would be safe.

Good luck for the Amnio

hotmama · 18/01/2008 20:11

I thought I'd check this thread to see how you have got on.

Hopefully your dh can have some time off with you around the 7th Feb.

Good luck

ScaredAsHell · 18/01/2008 20:19

Thanks guys for all the good wishes, on the one hand I was relieved they couldn't do the cvs but now it's the waiting for the amnio that's tough.

On the plus side I have an amazing friend who lives a long way away but she has arranged to take the day off on 7th and travel all the way here to go with me.

She was worried I would think she was presumptuous booking the day off but she knew I would have to go in by myself if she didn't.

Aren't friends amazing?

Hi all

Just wanted to let you all know that my midwife phoned me today with the results of the amnio and everything is fine.

And it's another boy

That makes 4 boys then!!
